I am happy to be a part of your web space and wanted to tell you a

bit about myself. I am a mom of 6 but all are grown and on their own

but one, a son, age 9 who I home school. I have been leaning towards

veganism for about year now but lack the recipes to keep it up and we

always end up buying meat for lack of knowing what to make. : ( I

dont feel good about it and we have so many allergies in our family

that I wanted to find a group that would hopefully be able to give me

ideas.

We, my husband, son and I all have eczema pretty bad right now and I

am allergic to any and all citrus fruits and vegetables...which makes

it pretty hard to find meals to make. None of us like the taste of

tofu...and, I dont like most fish or seafoods, so, I dont know if

there's hope for us or not. I may be allergic to them too since I

always end up getting sick when I have eaten them.

I recently joined a group in our neck of the woods where we did meal

exchanges and I made two in a row (we made and exchanged once a

month) that didnt have meat in them and was scorned and told to go

find another group that was vegan cuz they all wanted meat. I was

also told that my meals were cheaper since there was no meat in them

and thus others were spending more and it was not fair to them to

exchange with me. That hurt since I spent a lot of time on them and

I find that it's been more expensive actually to buy vegan

foods/meats than regular but I dont mind since I felt it was

healthier.

Anyway, hi everyone! ; )

Welcome and thanks for sharing about you! I am a loving wife and mother

of 2 kids--my son is 7 and daughter is 5. I am a pharmacist that has

really gotten into wellness and prevention. Your message spoke to me

because I have a great interest in sharing the power of nutrition and

weight management in regards to reducing our risks for disease. I just

wanted to throw out there that there might be a way for you to get over

your food allergies and also support your immune system, decrease DNA

damage, lower free radicals, increase antioxidants, improve your

cardiovascular function and much more! I have become a distributor for

Juice Plus because I have recommended it so much and has shown amazing

results. I feel confident recommending it because Juice Plus has

amazing independent research to support what it does! The long andshort

of it is that Vitamin/Mineral supplements are not what our bodies need

but rather whole food nutrition. None of us can get the complete

variety of fruits and veggies that we need each day (most of what we buy

is not as nutrient dense as it used to be) --even when we are vegan.

All the research out there shows that you can not get too much fruits

and vegetables in fact, more is always better! People who are allergic

to certain fruits or vegetables are able to get over the allergy by

slowly introducing a Juice Plus fruit and veggie gummie each day and

gradually building up to the full adult portion of 6 and 6 . Let me

know if you are interested in learning more.

I hope this can benefit you in some way. If you are curious you can

visit my website www C2UrHealth com and click at the part talking about

fruits and vegetables. Feel free to call me at 515-681-1118.

Good Luck!

Hi Shirl,

Welcome to VGF :)

You've come to the right place for recipes. Have a look in the Files (

) and

you'll find thousands of recipes for all types of foods to suit all

tastes and dietary restrictions. There is also a File with menu ideas

to help if you are stuck for ideas.

Tofu can be great if cooked the right way and it is very versatile,

but you can easily eat a vegan diet without it, and without any soy

products at all should you need to. Recipes in the Files are marked

with (SF) for those that are soy-free and (*SF) for those that can be

easily converted to soy-free. Fish and seafood aren't vegan so you

won't find any recipes containing those.

A vegan diet doesn't need to be more expensive than a " normal " diet.

If you avoid pre-packaged and convenience foods you'll find it can be

quite a bit cheaper. Although they can be very tasty, most of the

vegan meats are so over processed and the list of ingredients so long

that they probably aren't actually very healthy at all and there are

so many alternatives - beans, lentils, nuts, grains ..... and so many

tasty recipes. At family gatherings, people are lining up to try all

the weird and wonderful recipes I make. Usually, with a slight look of

surprise on their faces, the remark is " Gee, that's really good ! " . I

have to be quick to get in and get some for myself before it all

disappears, lol.

I hope you enjoy being a member here and if you come across any recipe

that you really like, please do let us know.

hi shirl, and welcome!

sorry to hear about the negative reaction from your meal exchange

experience. sometimes people assume that your diet is a direct

criticism of their diet... there's not much you can do about that,

really. except find a group of more supportive people! where do you

live?

which vegetables are you allergic to?

do you eat dairy products? i believe that's a common cause of excema.

cutting out dairy certainly made a huge difference to my own weight

when i went vegan almost four years ago

anyway, welcome, again. and feel free to ask questions.

best wishes

alice

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi again. Sorry it has taken me so long to reply back. I seldom eat

or drink dairy products. I try to avoid them whenever possible. We

drink the Diamond Brand Almond milk. My son doenst like any other

kind...he's had this for so long. My allergies are to all citrus

fruits and vegetables. The eczema is on my upper, inner eyelids! I

hate it and recently just bought some Selenium caps to see if that

will help. I also take fish oil caps to try and add more moisture.

I am also allergic to lanolin which is in most make ups and

moisturisers. How do you tell if you have gluten or wheat

allergies?? How do I know what foods it's in? My weight has

actually gone up since becoming vegan and my husband has lost

weight! Ugh! He wont hardly eat anything I'm making and is losing

and I eat to much pasta's and noodles!
