Guest guest
I don't think they have the beef in it anymore. One thing I learned, most if not all fast food fries have wheat in them. I have a two year old that is wheat intolerant, when she ate fries at Wendy's I think, she gets a rash, it was severe. I looked it up on line and found that wheat was in them along with most other fast food fries. **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife. City's Best 2008. Guest guest
Do McDonald's fries have meat flavoring in them? I think that they used to, but was wondering if they still did? Nancy
Guest guest
I believe they still use beef tallow, and it seems to me there is gluten in them as well. Guest guest
They use a vegetable based oil now, and they claim their fries are gluten free, but they are not! I tried them once and got really sick. I know of several people who have gotten sick on them as well. They may be vegetarian friendly, but they are not celiac friendly! Don't eat them unless you want to get sick! Also, even though they are suppose to cook the fries separate from the breaded stuff like chicken, many of the employees at fast food restaurants are so incompetent and careless that they throw everything into all of the deep frier's, so even if the fries themselves are same, there is a high chance of cross contamination. Making your own fries at home is a safer option. On a second note, some places spray the salads with a preservative that may contain gluten. Many years ago I had gotten sick on a salad from McDonalds. I never go there because I've gotten sick on everything I've ever tried there, so they are on my avoid list. Their salads may be safe to eat now, but I refuse to chance it! Eat n Park has a gluten free menu, but you have to emphasize it needs to be gluten free. Options for vegans are extremely limited too! I did write to them concerning this and they wrote back stating they where in the process of expanding gluten free vegan options on the menu, so that may be a possibility in the near future. If anybody goes there, be aware that the gardenburger is listed as gluten free but no longer is gluten free. I made them aware of this and they are correcting the menu, but in case you go before the menu update, you'll be aware of that. Unfortunately there are not a lot of options for us when it comes to eating out. Hopefully that will change in the near future. I have found writing to companies to be effective, but more people need to do it so they know it's not just a few people. Especially the larger chain restaurants need to be addressed with accommodating us because they have the means to do so. Small, local, family run businesses may not have the means to to maintain a specialty menu, and if you know that for sure, just cross them off your list and move on. Please, everybody, start writing to places expressing your concern and need for for gluten free vegan items on the menus because this is the best way to bring about change and improve our options. Good luck to all with your dining adventures! Jae On Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 7:35 PM, <jqnlf1 wrote: > > Do McDonald's fries have meat flavoring in them? Guest guest
I am sorry, I cannot locate the web sites that had the information. You can do a search on fast food fires and wheat, it will pull up several sites. It was during the time that we were trying to see if wheat was my daughter's problem. I never thought about fries. After she ate them her back was covered in the rash...I was very confused because I thought we had been good about cutting out the wheat. I did a search and just came upon the information on the fries. **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife. City's Best 2008. Guest guest
REally?? My 3 year old is allergic to wheat and he eats Wendy's, burger king and whataburger fries just fine. I have checked their website and the ingredients in them and they do not have a wheat ingredient? Am I missing something? What is the ingredient that is in them. I know that one time he broke out from whataburger probably because the fries were cooked with chicken (which you could taste in the fries) in the same oil, but that was the only time. I am anxious to hear what ingredient or where the wheat is in them? thanks Kim , Lovemy3ninos wrote: > > I don't think they have the beef in it anymore. Guest guest
Thanks for posting all this info. I wasn't aware that McDonald fries contained beef. Someone who worked there in the past told me they where vegetarian and I was unaware of that. You'd think that fries would at least be vegetarian. Wendy's and Burger King should be gluten free, but make sure you double check with each location because of cross contamination. I've eaten Wendy's fries without a problem at 2 locations. I did get sick on them at one place even though I asked. Many of the workers seem totally clueless in those places though! Once I didn't even eat them because after dumping them out on the napkin there where a lot of crumbs from breaded stuff, which they where obviously not cooked separate. I always go for the baked potato there now. I figure how can they mess up something they only need to cook and nothing else! I carry some dill around with me too because I love dill on my baked potatoes. I generally will take any type of condiments or herbs I like with me because I just don't trust them to be gluten free. I've spent too many nights with my face in the toilet to really trust or chance much anymore. Guest guest
Thanks for all the feedback regarding the fries. I thought that they had taken out the beef flavoring and was surprised to find it listed on their web-site. After all the uproar in the past, I thought that it was taken care of and my kids and I were still eating them, thinking they were vegetarian/ vegan. The reason I checked was to verify the gluten-free part. I am still awaiting a response from the company and was hoping that the web-site I was on was mistaken or out-of-date. Sigh.....
