Guest guest
I tried it and it was great. Very tastey. Our market had the ingredients listed on the labels (can't remember what was in it though). Anyway, two thumbs up. Guest guest
Did you see the " Delicious Veggie Burger " recipe repost that I sent in yesterday or the day before? You could use these crumbles in that recipe and it would be very good. This is a recipe I developed and is our family favorite. Enjoy, Judy - Mindy-n-Shawn Wednesday, June 18, 2008 2:25 PM Burgers Hello, I'm just full of questions today for some reason. I was wondering has anyone made burgers out of the Morningstar crumbles? If so had to you do it and how did they turn out. I have a bag in the freezer and trying to figure out what to do with them. I'm wanting to have burgers soon and wanting to make them a different way if possible. I told you how my last trying something new turned out, LOL. Guest guest
I am not sure if this posted, so I will re-post it Last night I used my Morningstar Crumbles in Taco Soup. I heated them in the bottom of a soup pot and brown a yellow chopped onion in with it. Then, I added a can of diced tomatoes with chiles, a can of corn (but now that I think of it, fresh would have been really good), a can of tomato sauce, a can of kidney beans, and 2 cups of water. Stir in a packet of taco seasoning, and simmer for 30 minutes. Serve with a dallop of sour cream and some tortilla chips. I am about to warm some up for my late night snack Cassie Mindy-n-Shawn <hunnybunns4233 wrote: Hello, I'm just full of questions today for some reason. Guest guest
I've used these for many years, they're great in everything. I like them in spaghetti, goulash, chili, you name it. They look so much like hamburger that no one ever notices the difference when I make a dish that's supposed to have hamburger. I took a shepard's pie to a covered dish supper, I used the veggie crumbles in it, it was gone in the first ten minutes. booliterary21 , Cassie Dixon <roxy87cabriolet wrote: > > I am not sure if this posted, so I will re-post it > > Last night I used my Morningstar Crumbles in Taco Soup. Guest guest
I put them into Taco Soup last night, if you are thinking of something else. 1 bag of crumbles and 1 yellow onion chopped in bottom of pot. Warm crumbles and brown onion. Add 1 can diced tomatoes with chiles (or without chiles), 1 can corn, 1 can kidney beans, 1 can tomato sauce, 2 cups of water and a packet of taco seasoning. Let summer for 30 min. Cassie " life's a garden, dig it! Guest guest
Cassie, This sounds really good. I copied it and added it to my recipes. Thanks. Guest guest
Well, hubby asked today for me to try out a burger recipe, as he's really missing his veggie burgers and there are no commercial veggie burgers around here that are gluten-free and corn-free that we like (only found one veggie burger and one tempeh burger so far). So I pulled out my old recipes from back before there were a lot of vegetarian foods in the mainstream stores, and we tried this one. Tofu oat burgers About 8 servings 2 medium onions, chopped finely 3 ribs celery, chopped finely light oil (sunflower, peanut, etc.) for sautéeing and frying 1-1/2 pounds firm tofu, drained 1 cup rolled oats (regular or quick-cooking) 2 Tablespoons tamari soy sauce 1 large clove garlic, pressed or finely minced 1/2 teaspoon dried herbs of your choice, optional Sauté the onions and celery in a thin layer of oil until soft, about 5-10 minutes. In a mixing bowl, mash the tofu with a fork. Add in the oats, tamari, garlic, herbs (if using any) and the sautéed vegetables. Mix well, then knead until mixture is smooth. Form into burgers and fry in lightly oiled skillet until browned on both sides. Drain on paper towels and serve hot. I processed the onions and celery a bit too much, they ended up pureed instead of minced. I stiffened up the dough a bit with some potato flour. At dinner they were good, though a bit mushy/crumbly. I put the extra into the fridge (I halved this recipe and still ended up with about 9 patties) and tonight they are lovely. Nice and firm and textured, cold or warm. I think you need to either let the batter sit for longer to absorb the liquid, or make them a day ahead. Hubby had another one tonight and was raving about them.
