Guest guest
I have several pressure cookers...one is a Wear Ever from the 50's and the other is even older, from the 1930's/40's, called a " MinitMaid...Magic Cooker " . They both work great. The main thing you might want to watch for in a much older vintage pressure cooker is the gasket. If it is a Wear Ever and does not have a gasket, pass it up as you will most likely not be able to replace the gasket. Wear Ever sold out to Mirro Aluminum in 1987 and they do not stock replacement parts for the old Wear Ever pans of any kind. I have already called them to inquire for future reference. My favorite is the old MinitMaid pressure cooker. It is oval in shape and has a set of racks that allow you to cook food over the food on the bottom of the pan therefore allowing you to cook more than in a pressure cooker without this added feature. I found an instruction booklet in a box with old cut out recipes and even older cookbooklets when we moved into our very old house. So, I searched ebay until I found the pressure cooker and made specific inquiries about the gasket. It is very easy to use but you do need to follow the directions carefully. Here is one that is listed on ebay at present: #4360144744 and here is a copy of the instruction booklet: #230158404573 Pressure cookers can sure save you a LOT of time but you NEED to be careful using them. Guest guest
I may have asked this before, but I can't remember the answer. Does anyone use a pressure cooker? If so, what brand and what material do you think is best? Also, if you use it to cook dry beans, do you soak the beans first? Thank you.
