Guest guest
I was just wondering are there any women on here who have had children while they were vegans and consumed a lot of soy. I know that soy can have some effects on the hormone levels and I'm just wondering how this can effect a growing fetus. Is there a such thing as too much tofu, for a man or a woman? I'd appreciate your help, my wife and I are new vegans and we're just trying to figure this all out. Thanks Les
Guest guest
while i've never been preggers, (they refuse to let me have a breedin license)(well, that and i probably can't have kids since i have the wrong plumbing, but, i digress), tooo much of anything is no good while soy can mimic endocrine hormones,(phytoestrogens ) in moderate quantities, it shouldn't pose a problem woman in japan, okinawa, china, et al eat tofu and such throughout pregnancy with few ill health effects i have heard of.. the thing fer women to watch out fer is b12....vegan diets can be missing this, as modern agriculture has ripped it out of the soil..tho, many foods are forttified with b12.. calcium is also needed, but a well balanced diet should easily cover that...leafy greens and all tofu and soy milk are excellent places to get calcium and protein.... its all about a balanced diet i would gather cheers fraggle

I just had a baby 6 months ago ! We've been vegan for a couple yrs now. I wasn't vegan with our first child, but both of my pregnancies were very very similar. Health wise, weight wise, baby wise - and I did/do consume a good amount of soy. More then the average person I would guess. Though I still can't do tofu unless it's silken (for smoothes, ice creams, and such). *\/*Melissa*\/* "All the arguments to prove human superiority cannot shatter this hard fact; In suffering, the animals are our equals." ~Peter Singer~ author of Animal Liberation www.WhyVegan.org Sensible Gun Laws = Safe Kids www.MillionMomMarch.com ************************************** I pledge my allegiance to the flag, and my heart to the Soldier who protects it!!! ************************************** God Bless America **************************************
