Has anyone already researched whether Red Nose Day supports anything involving vivisection or projects supplying livestock to third world villages? If so I would be grateful for information/comments as my workplace is having a red nose day on Friday. Obviously I don't want to contribute to anything cruel.

It's a concept designed purely to confuse Americans. Y'know, like Pantomime :-)

Yes and yes

If you're feeling adventurous

Indeedy (well, not me personally, but people in general).

OK - seriously for a moment (I can't manage seriously for much longer than that) - it's a thing created about 10 years ago by a bunch of comedians to raise money for various charities - they sell red noses which people wear for the day (and you can get them for the fronts of cars, etc). And then, as you can guess, people do all sorts of stupid things to raise money. I never quite understood why people couldn't just give money without people having to be stupid to get it, but I guess there's some sort of "village idiot" mentality buried deep in a lot of people :-)

Red-nose day...where some of the richest entertainers in the UK 'generously'

give a few hours of their time, and by so doing raise their profile and

improve their public image, in order to exhort those without much money to

give to charity.

Can I say, it's a rare surprise to meet someone even more cynical than I am

(and that's saying something) :-)

Can't say I disagree with your interpretation, though!

Although, as you highlight, buried less deeply in some than in others!

Hi Peter! :)

Actually, sounds kinda fun

<blush>

I guess people just have a hard time giving, so if ya get a gimmack,

they tend to do more - and if it works, well at least it works

I agree it should be easy to help others, unfortunately most of

today's society focus more on themselves than others

besides, who wouldn't want to wear a red clowns nose :)

Hi Nikki

It was the first couple of years, but every year it just gets hijacked by

more ex-celebrities more interested in boosting their careers than in

collecting for a good cause!
