Goldfish, in the wild, tend to eat mostly algae and aquatic plants, thus a majorly vegitarian diet. The fish food I have, though, is made of beef derivatives etc

SNIPI thought fish food was fishes eggs and tiny sea creatures.JoEND SNIP

a lot of fish food has "animal protein" in it..which could be rendered beef, chicken er "scrap fish"...

i dunno wot you can find in the UK, but there are brands here in the colonies which are just dried veggie and algae flakes...

Colin told me it's usually ants eggs in fish food here (I had thought it was fishes eggs).

I just have plant's in my aquarium that they love to eat so i don't have to actually feed them anything i just keep replacing the plants. They have been living happily for years like that. I'll see if i can find out the name but you local aquarium should be able to help you.
