Guest guest
Congratulations on your decision, Amber. If you haven't learned this already, the SAD (Standard American Diet) is chock-full of protein--too much, in fact. This leads to calcium loss from the bones and can harm the kidneys. If you haven't done so already, pick up Eric Marcus' " Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating, " so you can see how meat-eating harms us, harms animals (and not just the poor creatures eaten), and harms the environment. As for cookbooks, Sarah Kramer and Tanya Bernard have written two fabulous vegan cookbooks: " How it All Vegan " and " The Garden of Vegan. Intro Thu, 03 Apr 2003 19:01:42 -0000 Hi all, I am new to the list, and wanted to join to find out more info on being a vegetarian. I am an animal lover, and have always thought about not eating meat. A friend let me read her PETA magazine last night, and I saw an article about KFC. This pretty much turned the light switch on BRIGHT! It has already caused a ruckus with family and friends, this being the first day of not eating meat! I've been getting questions from " What are you going to do for protein? " , " Why are you doing that? " and statements like " That's why God made animals " , and " It's just a chicken. " I plan on ordering some books on being a vegetarian so that I can become more familiar, and ESPECIALLY order a cook book!! Hope to gain some insight from you guys! Guest guest
Hi Fraggle > there are a zillion and one books out there..and a zillion and 2 websites... I think you'll find it's actually a zillion and 3 websites. But I guess it's easy to mis-count when you get past half a zillion :-) BB Peter ---Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).Version: 6.0.459 / Virus Database: 258 - Release 25/02/
Guest guest
Amber, Hello and WELCOME! Congrats on yer decision to go veggie. My I suggest that you go to your local library and check out some books there before buying them. This way you can see what is useful for you without spending all that money. The 2 books that helped me out a ton was John Robbins " The Food Revolution " after reading this I would never eat another animal product and Debra Wasserman's " Vegan Handbook " which helped me out a ton in knowing what foods I needed to survive. Good luck and please let us know how we can help! Nikki , " Amber C.
