Guest guest
I'm from the States too, Arizona... that place ppl think is full of cowboys but is so diff depending on the city... up north there are small towns, lots of vegans, farmers markets & the like... in Phoenix, urban sprawl is getting horrible and I feel out of place. Anyhow... I went to a nutritionist who has worked with vegans and she was pretty well versed... but she told me I should be trying to get some kind of soy/nut cheese in my diet... Well, I've only found one brand of " Vegan " cheese and it was disgusting. Anybody ever had fake cheese that tastes good? While we're on that note... what about favorite fake meats/dogs/burgers etc? I'd like to have some quick, but tasty vegan choices beside nut butter and hummus. I bet the brand names abroad are different... that could be a problem. Well, any recommendations will be appreciated. (I have Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Trader Joes in my area) Hoping to buy organic from the farmers markets in the future! Guest guest
Alissa, My favorites are LightLife's brand Smart Deli. The hot dogs and deli " meats " are terrific. Their burgers are pretty good as well. This brand also has things like pepperoni, and chicken strips (the kind you would throw into stir fry). These are carried at Wild Oats. On the cheese, I have been able to use VeganRella in a recipe and have it taste good, but I have not found an imitation that could be eaten on it's own. Good luck! Sarah The New Search - Faster. Guest guest
Alissa I'm not keen on vegan cheeses. Tofu is okay, can be nice if mixed with other flavours. You could get your soya by drinking and cooking with soya milk. Jo > Anyhow... Guest guest
Lightlife makes these nice tempeh patties you can find in the refrigerator section. Gardenburger makes these Chik'n Grills that you can find in the freezer section; they also make fabulous Riblets.
