My husband has recently given up meat, I am sure my prodding was the main reason, although he does feel bad eating meat.

He has stomach problems, and it seems to be made worse by dairy. So now that he isn't eating much dairy, he says he feels weak and needs to go back to eating meat, and says I always make him feel guilty, which is probably true, and it bugs him. I guess I do wish we could share the vegetarian lifestyle of course, I never asked him to go vegan and I knew he wouldn't. But I guess it is wrong to push him.

I also want the kids to grow up vegetarian, if he starts eating meat again I know that won't happen. He already said I am trying to force vegetarianism on the kids, I said people force meat eating on their children all the imte so why shouldn't I? He said that children like meat.

I don;t knwo, he told me that the dalai llama eats eat because he has to, and he thinks he needs to eat meat for his health too, as he is not feeling well being vegetarian and then not eating dairy, and eating dairy makes him feel nausous. Hmm. No matter how far you have gone on the wrong road, turn back. -Turkish proverbFact: Each gallon of gas used by a car contributes almost 20 pounds of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. A single car driving 1,000 miles a month adds up to 120 tons of CO2 annually. Fact: One crop of hemp grown on one acre of land produces the same amount of pulpable fiber as one acre of 20 year old trees.

Well, find some vegan protein! Give him beans and rice, tempeh, seitan.

Make sure he eats enough; if he's not taking in enough calories, that could

be part of the problem.

I could be wrong but I get the feeling he's found an excuse he thinks will work on you and get him to be able to quit being Vegetarian. I and my husband have been Vege (Vegan about 90% of the time, Vegetarian 100% of the time) for over 8 months now and, if anything, we feel less weak than before. There are plenty of very healthy Veges out there.

Of course, I could be wrong and he may genuinely feel weaker because he's not getting the nutrition he needs. That's not from going Vege though, it's from not eating the right or enough food. Maybe throw some vege meat in him (or at him :) once in a while and see what happens. Garden Burger makes some excellent Vegan BBQ Ribs & non-breaded Vegan chicken patties. Put some tofu in dishes you normally make like spaghetti, chili, etc.

Take care,

Tammy

Good Morning!

DH has lactose intolerance here too. Which is kinda lucky fer me.

(terrible aren't I)Recently I have gotten him to switch to soy milk

without a problem and it has helped him out a lot! No more 3 hours in

the bathroom every morning. And as long as he watches his cheese

consumption, he's usually ok.

But there's more of course. The dear boy also has gout. Soooo, you

would think he would give up red meat as well. Yeah, right. At least

he has cut down a lot, but there are usually sufficient enough

servings of chicken and pork in the house should red meat not be the

dinner of the day. Unfortunately the hubby and child believe that if

the food is green, it is poisonous and should not be eaten. I am

lucky that corn and potatoes are not considered veggies here or I

would have 2 steaks living in the house with me.

But, I take what i can get. The milk is outta the house, the cheese

is used sparingly, shakes now consist of frozen fruit and soy milk,

the red meat is scarce, and Zak now likes the strawberries form the

garden. Baby steps. Maybe we won't walk together ever, but for now I

like our casual strolls.

nikki :)

hi, there is absolutely no reason that anyone should feel weak on a

vegan diet. the only nutrients he could possibly be missing with a

vegan diet are B12, biotin, and iron. make sure he's getting enough

of those whether in a multivitamin w/ iron and a biotin (since

multivitamins never have enough). b12 / iron are sometimes in soy

milk, e.g. vitasoy, but biotin is hard to get from a veggie diet. ok,

hope this helps...
