I have a 14 month old son and I have not started to introduce nuts to him yet, my doctor advised me to hold off due to nuts being highly allergenic but as i have been reading, alot of vegan moms have introduced nuts at a earlier age. It has been an ongoing task for me for a couple of months now to find out any information on this but I don't seem to be heading anywhere. Guest guest Posted July 19, 2003 Report Share Posted July 19, 2003 Hi Tina I was reading an article about soya and nut milks last week (I'm afraid I cannot remember what publication) and it said you should not give before 6 months old and that after that age there should not be any allergic reaction. Could you consult a naturopathic nutritionist? I visited one and he sorted out all my problems. He is a rawfood vegan, so would be helpful. Forget the allergic reaction, the thing that scared me off is that our doctor told us that nuts are the only food that will not break up if choked on and it enters the lungs. I know, I know, nice picture. He said that all other foods will disentegrate in the lungs, it won't be comfortable, but the person would be ok. But nuts have to be surgically removed. According to him, age 5 is the best age. Of course, we started at with smaller pieces. Geez, of all the things to rebel against! Now, as for peanut butter, I heard 5 also because of allergies. We introduced our son at age 3 slowly and so far so good. He is almost 5 and we have had no problems yet. Again with the pushing of the foods. ;)What have I been thinking!
