Hello everyone,

My name is Donna, and I am embarking on the process of becoming vegan. I

have been a vegetarian for years and years, but am going to really give

this a solid try.

I have, actually, tried cutting out all animal edibles for varying

lengths of time in the past, but found that I lacked energy, and thus

quit. I am hoping to better educate myself on the subject this time

around, to improve my success rate!

I live in California with my husband, daughter, three dogs, two cats,

and one aquatic frog. I spend a lot of time skating ( ice, roller, and

board ), swimming, and walking all those dogs : ) when I'm not working.

I've been reading all the posts since joining a few days ago, and have

lots more reading to do in the archives. Huge, informative archives!

Good thing I also love to read...

Well, guess that's more than enough for now. I look forward to future

posts. Hope you guys don't mind a novice amongst you...

HI Donna - and welcome.

Make sure you eat plenty of beans, lentils, nuts, wholegrain rice. If you still lack energy you could take a vitamin B supplement or brewers yeast.

Hi Donna and WELCOME to the group!

As for minding a novice, I highly doubt that. We are all learning

something new everyday it seems. :) I've been Vegan just over a year

and doubt I have even scratched the surface yet. But that's ok,

because that's what this group is for.

I think you will find a lot of great people hear willing to help,

listen and share. I did. :)

But between you and me, just be careful of Peter & Fraggle. Tho great

humans and very helpful, they can be quite tricky. ;)

Oh, and watch out fer Peter's double. Looks like him, sounds like

him, but not really him.

nikki :)- who hopes she didn't confuse you thoroughly

One must care about a world one will not see.

Hoy - what's that s'posed to mean??

Hmmm - I'm a bit scuppered there. If I deny it, you'll just assume it's my double. So.... in that case.... it's absolutely true.

*That'll keep them guessing*

Hi Nikki

Yes - it's a sort of indignant exclamation... just slightly more subtle than many of the American equivalents :o)

Oh! Do you have any vegan Jewish recipes to share with us? Do you know how to make Latkes without egg, by any chance?

You just reminded me of how much I loved Jewish cooking (and Jewish humour) when I lived back east, and it's been soooo long. I'm on a trip down Memory Lane right now, and I'm meshuggena!

ok, here's what you need

1 pound bag farfalle (bowtie noodles)

1 cup kasha (buckwheat groats)

egg replacer equivalent to one egg

splash o' vegetable oil

1 onion, chopped

2 cups vegetable broth or buillion

here's what you do

boil pasta per package instructions. while doing that, soak kasha in egg

replacer (best to use the powdered) and chop onion. Saute onion in

vegetable oil until it starts to soften a bit. add kasha and mix together.

Stir for maybe a minute or two, then add broth. Bring broth to a boil, then

lower to simmer and cook for about 15 minutes or until liquid is absorbed.

mix kasha mixture with pasta and enjoy.

oncoming train!
