I went to Holland & Barratt yesterday, to get some beta carotene tablets. The only ones they had were beta carotene in gelatin capsules. I asked if they had any suitable for vegetarians, and they showed me the cod liver oil - in vegetable capsules, which said 'suitable for vegetarians'!!!!! I pointed out that fish was not suitable for vegetarians and they shouldn't call them vegetarian (I believe the Vegetarian Society is going to contact them). I also pointed out that it was silly having beta carotene in non-vegetarian capsules as it would be vegetarians who wanted to buy them.

Hi Catherine

Are there any branches of Food For Thought in London? My other thought is 'do Fresh And Wild sell supplements'? I buy Quest Vegan Vitamins & Minerals - they may sell online.

Good luck

Good for you Jo! I am surprised that H & B were not aware of this -

surely they of all people know that vegetarians don't eat fish?! I

hope the Vegetarian Society do contact them.

Hi Janey

I hope they do. They are having a 'Vegetarians Don't Eat Fish' campaign.

Where I work there is going to be a celebratory bbq because the Director General is retiring. They have said they will have veggie/vegan food available, but then they announced there will be a hog roast! Personally, I find it really offensive to see some poor pig on a stick, so I am arranging for any other veggies/vegans at work who are interested to go out for an alternative lunch.
