Guest guest
It's one thing to have a few bits of unrecognisable animal flesh being burnt on a barbeque, but yet another to see the whole body being spun around as it's being cooked, isn't it Jo. Surely this is enough to turn everyone veggie when they see a whole pig being spun around, but it isn't and this is something I have yet to understand about the human race. I have been debating this at work this week, as my two colleagues do not see meat as animals and I have already told them that I cannot comprehend this. I think it is an excellent idea to suggest having an alternative lunch! I really hope it raises awareness, and that you get a good response Jo! Janey xxx > Hi Janey > > I hope they do. They have said they will have veggie/vegan food available, but then they announced there will be a hog roast! Personally, I find it really offensive to see some poor pig on a stick, so I am arranging for any other veggies/vegans at work who are interested to go out for an alternative lunch. > > Jo
Guest guest
Thanks Janey. I have tried to explain to people that it would be no more offensive to me to see a person being roasted, but they probably think I'm mad - although there are some meat-eaters who say they can see that it is offensive to veggies, and was not a good idea. I have discovered that quite a few people at work who call themselves veggies actually eat fish, and one of them cooks, say a meat and vegetable stew, for the family, and then removes the lumps of meat from her own serving. Still, I suppose she buys less meat than she would if she ate it as well. I suppose we must be grateful for small mercies (at present). Guest guest
I'm with you on the human issue Jo. I've already told people that I do not see the difference between eating animals or humans. We are all creatures given one chance at life. Who decides which creatures should be eaten and which shouldn't. Flesh is flesh. Of course I am against all killings - human and animal, but then again, I am not the one who feels it is okay for animals to be killed for meat. It is barbaric behaviour which should be left in the Dark Ages. Maybe this retirement event will raise awareness Jo. I do hope so! And never stop saying what you think, although some people won't admit it, they do " hear " what is being said. Guest guest
It's true that they do hear. It's the same with charity events. When I say I don't support a certain charity because it supports vivisection, I can see the cogs turning. So many people don't think what they are causing when they donate money. I always tell them which charities I do support though. Jo Maybe this retirement event will raise awareness Jo. I do hope so! Guest guest
That's the best way to handle that sort of situation - when you give what others deem to be a negative answer, follow it straight up with a positive ie. I don't support this charity because ...... however I do support this charity. Janey x > It's true that they do hear. It's the same with charity events.
