Hi Fraggle

I have just started reading a book called Health Wars. It doesn't

really say anything we don't already know, but is interesting just

the same. It gives the figures on how many people are killed by the

medical profession through mistakes, accidents, wrong treatment and

side effects.

I keep intending to read fiction but don't get round to it very

often. My most recent stories have been from a Readers Digest

collection - one story about computer hacking and murder, and the

other one about an explorer (can't remember the name off-hand) who

went missing, and a modern journalists obsession with the story. I

enjoyed both of them.

What are you reading?

I read the toothpaste tube some time ago... I couldn't honestly say it was a rivetting read, but kept me busy for a couple of minutes.

Seriously, though... I've finally succumbed to the pressure and I've just started reading the Harry Potter books!

i want to get to Scotland...but i'd probably stay, so it will be a while

before i make the trek.

as for harry potter, i probably would not have read them myself, but i read

them aloud to the kids

(long before the movies!) and got hooked; i particularly liked the last

three...let us know what you think!

Hi Peter

I did the same thing awhile back. Have had the books fer about a year

now but had no interest in reading them what-so-ever. Then, I ran

outta new fiction and thought, ah what the heck. Picked the first one

up (already seen the movie) and began to tear into them one after the

other. Now, I cannot wait to get the last one.

Let me know how you like them.

Will do. I'm only about half way through the first book at the moment, and I've already got a pretty good idea of the story from the films. It'll probably be a while before I get back to it now, as I've got some urgent stuff to do which is impacting my reading time!

BTW, does anyone know why the first one was called "The Sorcerers Stone" in the US? I mean, I'm sure that Americans know what a philosopher is? :-)

Hi Catherine

How are you finding the Hilary Clinton book? Is the Judi Dench a biography as well? I quite like biographies. I keep meaning to order the Vegan Caribbean recipes book (if it's the one advertised in The Vegan).

I'm still reading The Health Wars by Philip someone, and The New Scientist, and some covers on the cds I've recently bought.

hi jo,

i found the hillary clinton biography a bit bare of real experiences, but i admire her committment to the education of girls and women which she seems to have been able to keep going, the judi dench biography has turned out to be crap, just a lsit of performances and critics comments, again, no real life......

i recently read mo mowlams autobiography and she speaks about her real dilemnas, being a woman in her position, i found it enthralling, also i read kate addies recently, shes very intrepid......fab stuff......

the vegan caribbean cook book i bought off amazon, it has some brilliant recipes ......i made the banana loaf last nite and it is the best one i have ever tasted, and so easy, it was in the oven in the flash of an eye.........i love spicy food, you see, so wanted to add extra spice to my meals........recently i have been living off really hot chilli without........etc, and i can tell you its wonderful, and as effective as a good detox.....

Hi Catherine

I shall have to have a look at the Mo Mowlam and Kate Adie ones. I would imagine they are interesting. They both seem to be down to Earth types, and have been involved in interesting things.

I have heard that chilli is good for detoxifying, particularly the lungs. I saw in a magazine it was recommended as being good for clearing bronchitis. Unfortunately, I cannot eat chilli, but garlic and onions do the same, and I love garlic.

Hi Catherine

I love the smell of garlic - it alwaays makes me hungry!

brill stuff, thers a great line she says, depression is giving into the enemy.....

quite true, when you think about it. I must say I don't feel down very often. I'm lucky as I have a good family, and lots of love, so it would be hard to be depressed.

MMmmmm me too!

Garlic and onions are used at least once a day here

and me garden has an almost never-ending supply of garlic year round

This year I am quite excited about it too!

My brother-in-law sent me a braid of garlic from CA - they have a

huge garlic fest there every year and now I get to reap the benefits

of the Garlic Capitol of the World

Can't wait to harvest that crop!
