Guest guest
I went about two hours north last week and was able to go to a Trader Joes grocery store where I purchased some of their Masala veggie burgers. I haven't tried them yet, but was wondering if anyone here has had them before, and what did you think of them? ~ PT ~ Trials teach us what we are; they dig up the soil and let us see what we are made of. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Guest guest
I really like these burgers and so does my daughter and my non veg husband who has never tried one of my home made veggie burgers and would never eat a garden or boca burger. Unlike most veggie burgers that are based on TVP/soy protein, these are not. They have very little protein (2g), 12g of carbs and 8g of fat. When I buy veggie burgers I'm generally looking for an easy, quick protein source and these do not fit the bill. They do make a tasty side dish but I don't like them on a bun since it's just putting carbs between slices of other carbs. I do have Type 1 diabetes so my views on what I look for in food don't apply to most people! -- Liz
Guest guest
Hi PT: Correct PT he has never tried them. You know what that means there are more for my daughter and I to have. I do buy the Masala burgers occasionally and keep them in the freezer, they are good. In a message dated 4/19/2009 11:26:06 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, patchouli_troll writes: Hi glpveg. Guest guest
Hi Liz. I see your point about the low protein on these burgers. I think the term burger should be used pretty loosely in the case of these. They seemed more like potato patties to me... almost like special, spicy hashbrowns. Loved them though. I did eat mine on a whole wheat roll with lettuce, tomato, and slice of cheese and vegenaise and dill relish and ketchup.... very yummy. But you are right, they are not something that will fit the bill when you are looking for some signifigant protein source. ~ PT ~ The spirit of democracy cannot be imposed from without.
