Guest guest
You know how sometimes you really want something you know is bad for you? I was dying for a Hostess chocolate cupcake and my dear Carl bought a box so we could each have one and send the rest home to the grandkids. I was reading the ingredients list and found BEEF FAT in them. Beef fat????? What in the world? Is nothing sacred!? So those are off my list of ok foods. But darnit, what is next? Hostess Twinkies? Guess I'll be making chocolate cake tomorrow. I think a raspberry filling will be nice or a rich chocolate ganache or maybe I'll just make a chocolate pound cake. Carl and I are both eying the box of Hostess cupcakes but only the inclusion of beef fat is keeping us from ripping into them. Blech. Guest guest
What a disappointment, Jeanne. I guess this serves as a reminder to always check the ingredients. Over here in the UK we are lucky in that 95% of food is labelled if it is suitable for vegetarians and most foods have allergy advice as well. I have noticed that most US products on sale here don't have that labelling so I assume that they are not suitable for vegetarians and usually don't buy them unless I have checked the ingredients carefully. I'm sure that your homemade chocolate cake will be much tastier than the Hostess cake anyway! Christie
Guest guest
The UK has had a large vegetarian presence for a long time, hasn't it? I remember in the old Miss Seeton books there was a pair of vegetarians who were the village snoops/gossips. I remember a time when the ingredients weren't listed on labels. Guest guest
Actually, your chocolate cake with rasberry filling sounds better than anything ready-made. Sometimes I get a nostalgic craving for a Twinkie, but the last time I read the ingredients " animal and/or vegetable shortening " was listed. , Jeanne B <treazured wrote: > > You know how sometimes you really want something you know is bad for you? Guest guest
Thank you for that info, Jeanne. Who would think that they have beef fat in them? Pretty gross when you think of it. ~ PT ~ Be intent upon the perfection of the present day. & #8232;~ William Law (1686-1761) ```````````````````````````````````` , Jeanne B <treazured wrote: > > You know how sometimes you really want something you know is bad for you?
