Kelly, yes, you can eliminate Braggs Liquid Aminos if you like. Braggs sort of tastes like soy sauce, so it gives a salty taste, but, at the same time, is good for you. I suppose you could substitute salt for the Braggs, but I have no clue as to how much you would use, and you would not get that " brown " flavor which might be an attractive addition to the crackers. I do not like salt or saltiness, so I do not use the Braggs, even though I have a bottle of it (you can get it at a VitaminShoppe. I have recently made some crackers that called for Celtic salt. They turned out nicely, so I will be posting the recipes to the files soon- I am going out of town for a few days (which is why I made all the crackers in the first place!!), so I probably won't get to it until Sunday or Monday. I did put the salt in those crackers, to see what it would be like - I used *sea salt*-- I did not find them unpleasant, so, apparently, when you " cook " with salt, it hides and you do not notice it, but it just makes the flavors " brighter " . (why do I say " apparently " ? I have NEVER cooked with salt in my life. I have sea salt on hand for when I do the Master Cleanser, or for when people visit and want to salt their food. There is no salt on my table normally.)
Guest guest
ahh, good to know. I made the flax crackers in the oven tonight.. " cooked " for 3 hours, though one pan is still " 'cooking " because i made them a little too thick, probably. I don't know what to think, wasn't bad i suppose. Its not exactly a cracker... ahh.. i guess i was expecting a miracle lol I am curious about the corn chips, though. thats the experiment next on my list Kelly
Guest guest
Well, yes, I am a bit crackers, perhaps because I eat quite a bit of them. So, how about some cracker recipes and/or cracker recommendations? Our local Winn Dixie had some crackers reduced to .99 a pack and as they contained no animal products, we bought a package. They are called Milton's Everything Multi-Grain Crackers. I sent Carl back to the store this morning to purchase every box they had for sale. They also had Triscuits on sale buy one get one free so we stocked up on the rosemary and olive oil ones. Anyone else on the list crackers for crackers? Got recipes? Guest guest
Have you ever tried " Mary Gone Crackers " ? They come in a couple of flavors and are Gluten Free for those who can not tolerate gluten or don't eat gluten (like me). Julie Fleming " Mankind owes to the child the best it has to give. Guest guest
Re: Crackers I once made some crackers--maybe a couple of times. They were okay, nothing outstanding. I do wonder about ingredients in foods--I try to avoid corn products, particularly the corn sweeteners and the corn oils. Commercial crackers often have so many gross additives and some do have " animal " products, although I don't see that too often, except for maybe milk-derived ingredients. There are also so many with trans-fats (hydrogenated and partially-hydrogenated) vegetable oils that, while they are vegetarian technically, these oils are definitely NOT good for a person. A " store-bought " cracker I've found to be really good is called " Ak-mak " . It's touted as an " ancient Armenian flat-bread (made) with whole wheat and sesame seeds. They are a little bit expensive for the size of box and amount of crackers in it, but these are truly tasty and " hearty " . They do have " real butter " and honey in them, for the people who don't do dairy and honey, that would be a minus. But other than that, they are truly tasty and seem to be fairly healthy crackers. I love them and find they are super with soups and nice to dip into hummus. I highly recommend Ak-Mak crackers. This is a quote from a review from Amazon.com about Ak-Mak crackers: " ...What's in them: 100% organically-grown stone ground whole wheat flour, clover honey, sesame oil, real butter, sesame seeds, yeast and salt... What's not: Partially hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, preservatives or anything that you can't pronounce... " I don't have any interest or connection to the company--I just happen to like these so I thought I'd pass this along!
