I ate way too much the past two weeks and some of it (okay, a lot of it) was

highly processed, high fat and not all that great for moi..except for the dark

chocolate - that's high in antioxidants, right? *sigh*

Does anyone know of a great way to " detox? " Any good websites on the topic?

Detox is one of those words that I find everyone seems to have their own

definition of ... But if you want to remove " toxins " from your body, well good

news- your body already does that naturally. The organs most directly involved

are your kidneys and liver.

Basically the only way to truly " detox " is by consuming more antioxidant and

fiber-rich foods (fruits, veggies, legumes, and teas; especially green and white

tea) and less junk (hydrogenated oil, animal based fats, alcohol, etc.). Don't

entirely eliminate fat, but only eat good fats (i.e., olive oil). Ideally you

could try eating only organic food. There really isn't any trick to it: just

don't eat the bad stuff and eat the good stuff.

But whatever you do, don't listen to anyone who tells you to fast (see my post

from Thanksgiving regarding fasting), or go in a sauna (when you sweat all you

really lose is salt, potassium, and water). And please don't buy any of the

over-priced snake oil products (i.e., detox food pads, colon cleansers, etc.)...

There's just no scientific evidence that these things work and if you find

someone who claims it made them feel better I'd give it a 99.9% chance of being

the placebo effect.

I agree with you Dave.

I know so many people who have become I'll from colon cleanses, fasts and all

these fads out there.

I worked with a guy who would do all these extreme fads only to turn around and

eat a Big Mac and fries lol.
