Guest guest
Hi Heather, Welcome to the group. Are your children going veggie too? I have a son who will be 10 on Tuesday and he's been vegetarian his whole life. Be sure to check out the group's recipe files. There are tons of tried and true recipes there. Also feel free to post any questions, recipe requests,etc... you may have. We have lots of helpful members. Hope you like it here, Susie --- On Sat, 1/16/10, Heather <iforgotmyprozac wrote: Heather <iforgotmyprozac Hi " " Saturday, January 16, 2010, 10:16 AM  Hi everyone I am new to the group and wanted to take a minute to introduce myself My name is Heather I am a 28 year old stay at home mom I have three daughters (10, 4, and 18 months) and a stepson (11 next month) My husband and I just recently made the decision to become vegetarian so any advice would be greatly appreciated Heather

Guest guest
Wait just a minute I never said I was trying to force him into anything he can be anything he wants to be but since everyone in our house is becoming vegetarian I will no longer buy or cook meat I simple said I am afraid it will be hard for him to deal with when he is with us because he and his mom still eat meat please don't jump to conclusions when you read something ---- glen hosey 1/19/2010 10:43:30 PM RE: Hi why are you trying to force him to this. let it be his choice. if he wants to be vegan/veggie/ whatever let it be his choice iforgotmyprozac Tue, 19 Jan 2010 20:49:01 -0600 Re: Hi Thanks Susie Yea our kids are going veg to atleast the girls are and my stepson will when he is with us I am afraid it is going to be hard on him at least for the first few visits the girls have adapted very well but neither of them have ever been very fond of meat anyway I am deffinately going to check out the recipes need new ideas since I cook everynight (well mostly every night) thanks again for the welcome Heather ---
Guest guest
I'm sure you will provide him with choices. I have 2 teen sons who enjoy veggie dishes but really just need extra protein during their big (and again, BIG) growth years. Something they love is couscous and hummus and veggie kabobs. I will make proteins that they can have in addition but I offer choices. Hope it helps!! They love anything that includes dips:) I'm pretty sure they just inhale the food anyway:)! Guest guest
I might suggest taking him with you to the grocery store and having him participate in the process. He may feel important and like he is doing it with you instead of having it done to him. It was a wonderful experience with all 4 kids...more or less. Guest guest
That is an excellent suggestion. This process actually got my husband to start to read labels and ingredients. --- On Wed, 1/20/10, lisafallon147 <lisafallon147 wrote: lisafallon147 <lisafallon147 Re: Hi Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 4:33 PM  I might suggest taking him with you to the grocery store and having him participate in the process. Guest guest
Extra protein? Huh? There's plenty of high protein vegetarian sources. In fact, foods like tofu, seitan, beans and vegetarian meat substitutes tend to have a lot *more* protein than an equivalent caloric intake of meat because they are lower in fat. I am not in any way suggesting you should force your kids not to eat meat (just as parents should not force their kids to eat meat), but please don't perpetuate the myth that a vegetarian diet doesn't have as much protein (or as high quality of protein) as an omnivore diet. Guest guest
Extra protein that my sons are interested in eating. I was referring to her step son who, not growing up veggie would maybe not eat anything unknown to him. Try getting a teenager to eat tofu! Or anything unknown. Tricky business...
