Guest guest
This is the best sandwich for taking to work or school. Give it a try soon. Muffuletta 1 Italian-style crusty bun, cut in half horizontally 1 1/2 Tbs Italian dressing 4 tomato slices 2 slices mozzarella cheese 2 slices veggie-ham slices [i like Yves brand~ their bologna slices work great in this too] 1/3 cup alfalfa sprouts (or shredded lettuce) Pull out bits of bread from the soft center of both bun halves, making a shallow hollow. Put the dressing in a dish. Use a pastry brush to spread on each bun half. Layer 2 slices of tomato, 1 slice of cheese and 1 slice of veg ham on the bottom half of the bun. Brush the remaining dressing on the veg ham. Top with sprouts, remaing cheese slice, remaining tomato slices and remaining ham slice. Cover with top half of the bun. Makes 1 sandwich. ~ PT ~ He who is slowest in making a promise is most faithful in its performance. - Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778)
Guest guest
Where's the olive salad? It's not a muffuletta without the olive salad. --- On Tue, 9/15/09, patchouli_troll <patchouli_troll wrote: patchouli_troll <patchouli_troll [recipe*] Muffuletta Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 2:21 PM This is the best sandwich for taking to work or school. Guest guest
Probably because this recipe is one I tried from a " cooking with kids " cookbook about how to make kid-friendly lunchbox items; maybe they didn't think most children would like the olives. *lol* But you are right! An olive tapenade is what gives a muffuletta some zing. I have a yummy olive dip recipe that is usually served warm with crackers, but I think it would be perfect to use the leftovers in this sandwich. Going to post it next... ~ PT ~ , " artichoke72x " <artichoke72x wrote: > > Where's the olive salad? It's not a muffuletta without the olive salad. Guest guest
We used to make eggplant muffulettas at a health food store I worked at years ago. They were wonderful! I made the olive tapenade/salad tons of times, but I can't remember what went in it aside from black olives, green olives with pimentos, and olive oil. There were other ingredients. I know that muffulettas are a Louisiana thing, esp. around New Orleans. In addition to olives, some places add pickled cauliflower to the olive mix. Now I'm wanting to look for some recipes and experiment. I'll let y'all know if I come up with anything worth sharing. --- On Thu, 9/17/09, patchouli_troll <patchouli_troll wrote: patchouli_troll <patchouli_troll Re: [recipe*] Muffuletta Thursday, September 17, 2009, 1:52 AM Probably because this recipe is one I tried from a " cooking with kids " cookbook about how to make kid-friendly lunchbox items; maybe they didn't think most children would like the olives. *lol* But you are right!
