Guest guest
Hello.. Another great option? Pandora.com! I make mixes on my Iphone and play them on the way to work. Great if you have particular tastes in Christmas music. A personal fav is the Ella Fitzgerald Holiday mix:) Cheers! Guest guest
I agree--the music is cheery and uplifting...for me, it brings back some interesting ( " warm-fuzzy " ) childhood memories! Like going to church and doing the " program " in the childrens' department--all the age-groups had a part in the " program " and we always had music to learn and speaking " pieces " to memorize... Then, in OUR family, on Christmas morning, we 3 kids were strictly told we could NOT come out of our rooms until we " heard the music " --which was usually an LP record of Perry Como singing Christmas carols and other holiday songs; sometimes it was a recording of " The Nutcracker " or a certain choir that sang with organ and orchestra. Our " can't come out until the music " custom seemed very ritualized, but I guess that's how my parents wanted it--it sustained the atmosphere of " surprise " that THEY desired more than WE (kids) did. My parents routinely hid Christmas gifts, too--and Dad really came unglued when my siblings and I (we were ornery!) would play " treasure hunt " before Christmas and " find " the stash of un-wrapped gifts somewhere in the house. Of course, if Dad & Mom didn't know the " surprises " had been " found " --we were duty-bound to PRETEND to be gleefully surprised by our gifts on Christmas morning! So went the game! Mom sometimes had cookie-baking sessions before the holidays, although it wasn't a huge custom in our family--I never followed it as an adult. She liked to play the " Christmas records " or turn on the radio to a music station while the baking was progressing--I like that memory, too. Thanks, Judy, for bringing up the topic! I have discovered the internet musical wonder, www.pandora.com. I do the free version. A person can type in any piece of music, any " artist " , any style of music and get a " station " (musical selections played) that is all similar-type music. I have a lot of stations--lost count. A couple of them play ONLY Christmas music--year-around! I like the traditional " carols " and religious-themed ones best of all. It's so nice to have the music--too bad my 'puter isn't the kind I can move around the house, so I could hear it all day wherever I am! Happy Holidays/ Merry Christmas! Good wishes to all, whatever you are doing! --Laura B., in Illinois PS: We got our first " real " snofall last night! I had " predicted " it would be around the 14th or 15th of December, so I was off by about a week! Oh well! If we have it on the 6th or 7th for the first time, so the " weather lore " goes, we'll have either 6 or 7 MORE snowfalls or at least a total of about 6 or 7 for this season. Does it always come out that way? I really don't know. When I think I'm keeping track of it, I forget and some of the " data " slips my mind! So much for prognostication of snow-falls! :->
