What method(s) do you use for doing more than spot-cleaning of stuffed toys that

are not machine-washable? My children own several stuffed toys that I know are

full of dust mites, but they are not ready to give these toys away!

I put them all in the washer (short cycle, no dryer). I let them air

dry. Works great every time. I figure it's worth the risk of them

falling apart since they are yucky anyway.

Hi,

I usually wash by hand in the sink or spot-clean, and then put in the dryer.

The heat of the dryer kills dust mites, from my understanding, and germs, and

dries them, and knocks out the dust. It works quite nicely.

Good luck! It’s about time for our spin through the dryer for the “guysâ€

again, too. ☺

I use a toothbrush with a drop of soap, do a quick rinse and dry in a zippered

pillowcase cover (we once had a dryer explosion).

If the stuffed toy really can't go in the washer without risk of falling

apart them you can place it in a plastic bag and put in the freezer for a

week. Freezing will kill dust mites just as effectively as heating them.

To rid stuffed toys of dust mites, you can either put them in the

dryer for 30 minutes (timed cycle with hot air) or put them in the

freezer for 48 hours.

Both strategies work without damaging the precious objects (for those

small owners who believe the stuffies are practically real).

But freezing or tumbling in the drying won't make them smell better...
