Guest guest
I had no idea, either! Congratulations, all around! On a related topic, we have four girls, including the new one. I'm curious about how everyone else stacks up, as lots of people have told me that 'vegetarians have more girls'. Anyone have any experience/knowledge about this? A year or so ago, there was a study that was touted re: this topic, but when I went to read the actual research, it had nothing whatsoever to do with vegetarians, but that women who get a 'variety of nutrients, most notably protein' are inclined to have more boys..somehow, this got translated into 'meat eaters have boys' by the media (actually, eating breakfast was the biggest indicator of 'boy production', but that's beside the point). Guest guest
I've always been a big breakfast eater. Everyone else in my generation (10+ cousins) do not eat a " real " breakfast and are huge meat eaters, and yet we've ALL had almost entirely girls. Most of the families have no boys, no family has more than 1 boy, and if there's a boy in a family, there's at least 2 girls as well. So, at least in our case, it might be genetics and it might be larger environmental issues, but it certainly has nothing to do with being a vegetarian. Guest guest
I have two girls and am expecting a boy in about 6 weeks. I read that story too. Not very scientific. I think boys and girls have more to do with your body and timing and ovulation than diet. I'm eating very different from when I had my first, but no so different from when I had my second. So I don't think veg*ism has anything to do with it! But you know the media..... Elizabeth On Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 8:49 AM, jenni claire garverick < jennigarverick wrote: > > > I had no idea, either! Guest guest
I read about a study like that years ago, before I had any kids -- it added to my conviction that I would have girls. Now here I am with three great little boys! The one I read said it was a very strong predictor, that the number of veg*ns having girls was way higher than the rest of the population. Guest guest
It drives me nuts when the title of a media article re: research really has very little to do with the actual research! Or when the study sponsor is in tiny lettering at the bottom (or not reported in a newspaper article etc). Anyway, enough of my soapbox. To answer your question about gender and diet... I have three boys so definitely don't fit the " vegetarians have girls " idea. I come from a long line of vegetarians: My parents had three girls and one boy. My paternal grandparents had three boys. Interesting reading the responses. Paula
Guest guest
Clearly through my (rather unscientific) survey, all that diet stuff appears to be hogwash. I suspected as much, but thought it'd be a perfect forum. It HAS been interesting reading all the responses. Thanks, everyone. j. ________________________________ peej2e2 <johnsontew Monday, August 17, 2009 10:06:56 AM Re: baby watch It drives me nuts when the title of a media article re: research really has very little to do with the actual research! Guest guest
I'm also a lacto ovo vegetarian. I have one boy. My mother-in-law has been a vegetarian all her life and has two boys. I once read somewhere that having a low protein diet increases the chances of giving birth to a girl. The replies I've read to this thread just goes to show that being vegetarian doesn't necessarily mean that you are getting less protein Sule. Guest guest
I found it VERY interesting that what was 'less protein' according to the actual science was equated to 'vegetarian diet' when translated by the media. I'm always skeptical abotu these things when I read them in the paper, but this one was a real eye opener. Not to mention, the difference is minimal-like 2% or something, if memory serves. Thanks for the reply! j. ________________________________ sulesimon <sulesimon Thursday, August 20, 2009 12:32:07 AM Re: baby watch I'm also a lacto ovo vegetarian. I have one boy.
