A friend's daugher just had a baby this weekend and the baby has thrush. The

pediatrician has given the baby 2 different meds to eliminate the thrush, but

nothing seems to be working. I told my friend I would asked my if

they have personal experience with treating thrush using alternative methods.

Thanks for anything you can share.

We had thrush terribly with my son - both in his mouth and on my

breasts. Ouch! We treated by following a strict Candida diet (it is

yeast, after all) and used Gentian Violet inside his mouth and on my

nipples. Be sure not to wear anything you care about as the Gentian

Violet STAINS! It has to air dry on the breasts so that it won't get on

your bra and then when baby nurses it just gets all over again anyway.

It is messy but very effective. We did 5-7 days 3 different times.

Definitely cutting out Candida-feeding foods in mom like sugar, yeast

breads etc. I can get the title of the cookbook we used (I still go

back to it occasionally when my dd or I are have yeast symptoms - we had

yeast with her too but in my dd, it showed up as a yeast infection in

her vaginal area not her mouth. Both had yeast rash in the anal area).

You can also get acidoph. powder and sprinkle on your nipple before

nursing to get some into baby as well. I'm happy to talk further about

this - it was a major part of our life!

A friend of mine used gentian violet with luck (it can and will stain,

so she'll hve to have her and her child in something they don't mind

getting stained purple -or just wear black :)

Of course the ped. gives meds!!? Ugh! one of my pet peeves.

This is an overgrowth of yeast. Have the mom was her nipples and air dry. Mom

hopefully is nursing. If so, she should be taking probiotics, and give the baby

the baby version, which she can find in any health food stores. No processed

sugars, and limit other sugars. Limit products with yeast.
