Guest guest
Hi Don, It's the higher water content in soaked nuts that makes them easier to digest, so dehydrating them negates the benefits of soaking. I'm not familiar with the Total Blender but I was never able to make almond butter in my K-Tec. I also tried it with my Champion juicer but as I recall it was very hard on the motor, and didn't produce the desired result (like store bought). Cashews worked better. Maybe others here have ideas. All the best, Nora www.RawSchool.com I want to make almond butter, just got a Total Blender. Can someone pass on some experience on how to do this. I usually soak the nuts first which makes them easier to digest, then I dehydrate them to make them crispy. Do I need to do this to make almond butter? Guest guest
My experience with almond butter is that MOST of them have a slightly " off " (rancid?) taste. I recently tried Justin's Squeeze Packs and they're awesome, but I haven't seen jars of Justin's Almond Butter. Can anyone recommend a brand as good as this? Do you guys agree that many of them taste like something is wrong? Thanks, Ann
Guest guest
The only one I have tried (or have had consistently I should say) is the Maranatha Nut Butter brand, the smooth one. I don't recall it having an off-taste to it at all. My son loved it,too - but I haven't seen the almond butter variety here in IL (we had gotten then in regular grocery stores in Florida, but I forget to look at WF/etc though I think they maybe also have a 'grind your own' variety at WF - not usually on the list/budget for what we do pick up from there. And I usually forget to look. I can't pack any of it for school for my son since he has a child in his class with a peanut and tree nut allergy (it's on the list they sent home for things to NOT pack in lunches). Guest guest
If you have a Trader Joe's available to you - I have never, ever tasted an off taste in theirs, it's very, very good. Guest guest
Hmmm, we eat three or four brands regularly (whatever is on sale at the co-op) and never had an issue with taste. Guest guest
We use Whole Foods 365 organic brand and Maranatha's raw organic almond butter. Both are soooooooooo expensive so are treated as delicacies!

Guest guest
We always get the Maranatha at Costco -- the huge jars, bigger than any the grocery store carries, and for a lower price than at the grocery store. I believe we pay $6.99 (Canadian). And the only ingredient is roasted almonds.
