Guest guest
I have Hashimoto's Disease and have only used nutrition to remove the symptoms. I eat a vegan low fat low sodium diet similar to the one Joel Fuhrman promotes, only I allow for snacks between meals since I exercise heavily with marathon training. I've never been on thyroid medication and plan to keep it that way --- On Sun, 10/18/09, kimberlyire <kimberlyire wrote: kimberlyire <kimberlyire OT: Hypothyroidism Sunday, October 18, 2009, 11:23 PM Anyone have it and treated herbally/homepathic ally without hormones? Guest guest
I keep mine under control by limiting any dairy to just every once in a while. As well as taking a thyroid suport suppliment I get at my local coop. I can't think of the name right off the top of my head. I will find the bottle and send you the name of it. Guest guest
do you mind me asking why? my thyroid gland is 100% non functional so I need 100% replacement which I get via synthroid. I can't believe that I could do it any other way. But I would love to know what is wrong with this type of hormone replacement? and how do you do it without? I am already a super healthy vegan, I walk everywhere, yoga, etc. thanks, Elisa , " Gretchen Goel, Wellness Coach " <gretchen wrote: > > I have Hashimoto's Disease and have only used nutrition to remove the symptoms. Guest guest
I have hypothyroidism (diagnosed 6 yrs ago) and am on the low end requiring only 75 mcg daily (I believe this may be the lowest dosage?). I went to see a nutritionist/chiropractor and was put on a detox plan then on a 100% vegan whole foods diet comprised on about 75% raw foods, smoothies and juices. I also received chiropractic adjustments weekly. With agreement (and hesitation from my physician), I stopped the Levothyroxine and continued the diet and chiropractic adjustments for 6 months. I had my thyroid levels checked at 1 month (no change) then at 3 months and my thyroid levels were low. My doctor wanted me back on the medication but I gave it another 3 months and my levels were still low and I DID NOT feel well. I was having heart palpitations, hot flashes and very moody. I agreed to start the Levothyroxine again and within a few days I felt SO much better. I think it can be controlled with solely diet/holistic approaches but it depends on how borderline you are. I don't think everyone can control this holistically. I've read about herbal thyroid boosters but they are very expensive and I didn't try them. I have continued with my mostly vegan diet and stopped the chiropractic adjustments and have given up on fixing this holistically for now. Unfortunately, I feel like it's just something I have to live with and I'm accepting that. Would love to hear your stories! --- On Tue, 10/20/09, ejsrejsr <elisaelisa wrote: ejsrejsr <elisaelisa Re: OT: Hypothyroidism Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 2:10 PM do you mind me asking why? my thyroid gland is 100% non functional so I need 100% replacement which I get via synthroid. Guest guest
It is possible t treat Hypo and Hyperthyroid herbally. In fact we had a three hour lecture on the subject just yesterday. Find a reputable herbalist in your area and they should be able to help you Becky On 21/10/2009, at 4:10 AM, ejsrejsr wrote: > > do you mind me asking why? my thyroid gland is 100% non functional > so I need 100% replacement which I get via synthroid. Guest guest
Some people have temporary or slight difficulties with thyroid function; some have medium difficulties, and some have full or nearly full dysfunction. For example, after childbirth it's not uncommon for a woman's thyroid function to fluctuate for a while but then ultimately calm down again, either on its own or with short term thyroid hormone supplementation. It sounds like you have gotten the appropriate tests and a medical evaluation. There is nothing wrong with using Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothyroxine, etc. In fact, the only hormone replacement you (as a vegetarian) wouldn't want to use is barely available anymore: Armour, which is/was made from horse thyroid hormones instead of being synthetic. It wasn't as effective, anyway, because there was wide discrepancy with the amount of hormone you got per dosage. Thyroid hormone replacement is not like estrogen or other hormone replacements. Your body needs thyroid hormone to function, from birth to death.
