Guest guest
-Hi Elisa, Our entire family take Nutraceutical's " Kal D-2 1000 IU " chewables. They're peppermint, vegan (I called the company), and taste great! They are teeny tiny and easily crushed if needed for the baby and contain Xylitol, which I hear is good for teeth. So far, these are by far the favorite in our home! Guest guest
Thank you and thank you Kari too! Do you find that the D2 does enough to keep your levels up if you are out of the sun, as I have heard only D3 will do a good job at this. thanks again, Elisa , " kimberlyire " <kimberlyire wrote: > > > -Hi Elisa, > > Our entire family take Nutraceutical's " Kal D-2 1000 IU " chewables. > They're peppermint, vegan (I called the company), and taste great! Guest guest
We take Dr. Fuhrman's vegan Vitamin D. The recommended dose for adults (3 tablets) contains 1800 IU, which is more than the nonvegan version as it is not as well absorbed. I also take it in split doses during the day as it does not last as long. My Vit. D levels were fine when tested recently. Good luck! Guest guest
This is my experience with Vitamin D. My physician (also an orthopedist) suggested that I have my levels checked last Spring. I was definitely below the optimal level. He recommended 5,000 IU per day, plus the fortified foods I was eating. On Monday my levels were rechecked. I am now just at the optimal levels which is a large improvement. Yeah. However, I noticed on the lab results that the total " D " level is broken down into Vit. D2 and D3 values. My D3 is at the baseline optimal level (40) however my D2 is in the toilet! It only came out to " 1 " !! I am planning on discussing this with my doctor. I checked a few stores last night and did not find D2 supplements. So, if anyone has any information regarding the breakdown of D2 and D3 I would appreciate the information. I'm wondering if it's kind of like cholesterol levels. Your total needs to be at a certain level, yet, we all know that you also have to look at the breakdown of the LDL and HDL. I don't know if the same holds true for Vitamin D. I've tried to do a google search and can't find specifics on D2 deficiency, although I did find that it, in fact, exists. , " ejsrejsr " <elisaelisa wrote: > > Thank you and thank you Kari too! Guest guest
-Hi Elisa, That's a very good question. I've never had my levels checked, as I'm having difficulty getting our insurance to deem it as " necessary " in order to have it covered (still working on that), and am unable to afford the testing myself. It is difficult to find good information for D2, most everything I'm finding revolves around D3. If anyone has more info on this I'd be very interested. As of now I'm taking 2000 IU daily and my daughter (4 years) 1000 IU daily. I do plan on having our levels checked for everything as soon as I'm able. Guest guest
Thank you all again! I think I need to get our levels checked so I know what we should do. By the way I have heard that you can get your levels checked at home, I think it is grassrootshealth.net And thank you Gretchen for your post, I think it is a great summary about vit D. Guest guest
Thank you all for the Vitamin D information. My son was diagnosed with Rickets at 6 months. We had to give him a vitamin D supplement and sunlight for 15-20 minutes for several weeks . After that we never had any problems. I have a 3 month old now, and because I am aware of the need, my husband and I are always looking for a good vegan vitamin D.
