Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am going crazy picking between the two. First I wanted a non plastic container, but I have given up and realize that these are the only two blenders to choose from, at least they are each BPA free. Do any of you have experience with both? Thanks so much! elisa
Guest guest
We have the Blendtec and have been quite happy with it. It definitely does everything it says! I have not used a Vitamix though so nothing to compare with. Janelle ejsrejsr wrote: > > > Hi everyone, > > I am going crazy picking between the two. Guest guest
Hi, I do have both because I bought a Blend Tec and then was given a Vitamix. They are both fantastic machines - you will not be sorry with either purchase, but here are a few things to consider. Your counter space - the Vitamix is larger so with the container on the base it will not fit under your cabinets while the Blendtec does. That is why I chose the Blendtec originally. The way the controls work - the Blendtec has programmable buttons that are set for different speeds and times. You can change these if you like. The Vitamix has knobs that you turn to change speeds - you manually turn it off whenever you are done. The Vitamix has more options you can add- like a smaller container and a dry container for grinding grain. It also comes with a tamper to stuff the food down into the blades without stopping the machine - very handy at times. I have both sitting on my counter and use them both every day! The Vitamix is best for soups because the lid is clamped down tight and cannot blow off from pressure of the hot liquid. I like the Blendtec for my morning smoothies because of the programmed time - I put everything in and can turn away and do something else, then come back and it's done. My guess is you will be happy with either one - good luck Jean
Guest guest
Based on what I've heard from people who own both blenders, the Blendtec is preferable because you don't have to use a plunger, there is a life-time warranty on the blade, it is not as large/heavy as the Vita-Mix, and it is cheaper. I own a Vita-Mix and love it because of the plunger and the 8-year warranty. Vita-Mix has great customer service.
Guest guest
Is the Blend Tec capable of grinding nuts and seeds nice and fine? I use my vitamix for that constantly, because I like to add ground seeds into pretty much everything I bake. I had never heard of the Blend Tec. The Vitamix is awfully expensive, but on the other hand we've had ours for 6 years now and never had any trouble with it, and use it several times a day for all sorts of different uses. But when it does die it would be nice to know of a less expensive option to replace it with! Guest guest
Hopefully it will never die! I've had mine for around 18 years! It's still going strong! I like to use my magic bullet for grinding seeds.... It comes with all sorts of containers and there is a nice little one w/ a lid that's perfect for storing left- over ground seeds in the frig. I've never used a Blendtec. Guest guest
you are all so great for responding! I think I am leaning toward the blendtec because I heard it is easier to clean and pour and the size issue. but is it really as good for smoothies as the vitamix? I heard that the vitamix makes smoother smoothies and I think I will use it for making cold smoothies more then anything. thanks again to you all! Guest guest
I just received a Vitamix as a present and use it at least three times a day. Cleans like a charm! Smoothies are very smooth (we always put greens and nuts in them and it is amazing how smooth they get). I haven't used a Blendtec, I too was torn about which one to buy. My husband ended up surprising me with the Vitamix and so far it works great. I have made milks, ground flour, made smoothies, etc. Good luck! Guest guest
My Blendtec is used for smoothies, dressings, soup etc. I drop in whole cloves of garlic for soups and frozen berries, ice, nuts, flax seeds etc for smoothies and it gets perfectly smooth! ejsrejsr wrote: > > > you are all so great for responding! Guest guest
My VitaMix is a stainless steel workhorse. I got it on Ebay years ago and it has never missed a day. It is probably 20 years old. Ebay has many of the old stainless ones listed so you might look there.
Guest guest
I get a lot of education from the group, but don't normally post, so thanks to everyone for helping out. I'm confused on this one, though - I've been running an Oster that I probably paid $15 for 10 years ago. 4-5 smoothies a day for me and the kids, plus soups and stuff. The thing is a monster. I'm not sure why a $400-500 blender is a necessity?
Guest guest
That is a good idea for non plastic! Are they just as good though, does it blend nuts/seeds/hard carrots, etc smooth? and what model do you have? Thanks elisa , " iimmccff " <ingamcfadden wrote: > > My VitaMix is a stainless steel workhorse. I got it on Ebay years ago and it has never missed a day. It is probably 20 years old. Guest guest
It's just super-powerful. I can grind flax or nuts or just about anything in a few seconds, and I'm not limited to doing a couple of tablespoons at a time like I would be with a coffee grinder. I can add nuts to our smoothies and you'd never know they were in there -- throw in a whole (peeled) orange, a branch of kale, whatever. When I was first researching what to buy, I remember reading that even if a Vita-Mix had dull blades it could chop wood because the motor is so powerful. I'm glad your Oster is holding up so well -- I don't think things are generally built that tough anymore! Guest guest
you must have a very special one, the Oster that sits in front of me while I write this can not make a thick smoothy and needs constant stopping and stirring to get anything blended, even when it is not very thick, it drives me crazy! elisa , " ~Rob Allender " <rallender1 wrote: > > I get a lot of education from the group, but don't normally post, so thanks > to everyone for helping out. Guest guest
Yes, I would say your Oster is an exception. I've gone through a kitchenaid and two breville blender in nine years. The Breville was better with green smoothies and nuts, but died the first time making hummus. Guest guest
Hummus was what killed my Oster too! I ended up buying both a Blend Tec and a new food processor and I actually decided I like hummus better in the food processor. Guest guest
Mine says Commercial Vita-Mix Maxi 4000, it is all stainless. The only thing that I have changed over the years is the gasket on the lid and you get them 6 at a time from the Vita Mix web site for just a few dollars. I lost my " plunger " years ago and have never missed it. We do daily smoothies, grind grains for breads, puree for my dog foods and do whole food juices...never a problem. I loooove my Vita-Mix.
