I haven't even checked online, but I was wondering if there were any

recommendations on books about successful vegetarian pregnancies.  I have a

daughter who is 3 1/2, but I was not veggie before she was born.

I know it totally can be done, and I will start looking at websites this

weekend.

Thanks,

Cassie

I agree! I was vegan for both my pregnancies. I did everything as I

normally do. Made sure to take my prenatals, calcium, I took a b12 sublingual

(still do), ate pretty normally, making sure to get enough proteins,

veggies, fruit etc....making sure to get a variety. All the things you already

know to stay healthy and I had 2 very normal pregnancies and now have 2 very

healthy vegan kids! I'm still amazed every day how healthy they are!

Even with this cold and flu season, my son had some sneezing that lasted one

day and my daughter nothing! And that's the extent of our sicknesses this

entire year!!! Good Luck!!!

I'm 7 months pregnant with #2 right now and have been vegetarian both

times. I eat regularly, making sure I get protein with every meal and

dark greens every day and pretty much do everything else as normal. I

take my prenatal vitamins, a calcium supplement, and a vegetarian DHA

supplement to make sure all my bases are covered. I also take a

prebiotic powder everyday but that's more because pregnant women seem

to constantly get constipated and I am not a fan of that plus I think

it just helps keep me from getting sick.

As far as I'm concerned, it's no harder being pregnant as a veg

versus a non-veg.

Good Luck trying!

Just wanted to let you know that I was not eating meat or dairy during my

pregnancy (I ate free range eggs though). I gave birth at 40 weeks to TWINS who

weighed in at 7 pounds each. I didn't worry much about anything I ate and I was

nauseous much of the time and ate oatmeal exclusively for days on end because

that was all I could tolerate. They came out great. My biggest recommendation

for pregnant women is to relax, and try to be as calm, positive, and happy as

possible. I truly truly believe that this with a diet not full of crap will

make everything turn out juuuuust fine.

Congrats on your pregnancy. I miss being pregnant so much (but I'm sticking

with my two boys)

Well, Cassie, I feel like I 'know' you well enough to tell you just to eat what

you're eating now, + prenatals. No 'extra care' necessary because you're a veg.

But I know where you're coming from- I'm a book reader, too. I'm sure

collectively, we as a group have hundreds of healthy pregnancies to back us

up...

I used " Your Vegetarian Pregnancy " and liked it. You can find it here:

I'll have to check out that book, Jacqueline. It sounds like a good suggestion.

I have a close friend who's vegan and pregnant so I've been thinking about this

stuff again.

One book that I've already lent her, because it has a section on vegan

pregnancies, is " Healthy Eating for Life for Children " by Physicians Committee

for Responsible Medicine. I know " New Vegetarian Baby " by Sharon K. Yntema and

Christine Beard also has a section on pregnancy.

Good luck!

  • 2 weeks later...

I had three vegan pregnancies. Used Michael Klaper, MD's " Pregnancy, Children,

and the Vegan Diet " as my guide. Mine is from 1994 (OMG!), not sure if it has

been updated.
