Hello,

I'm Christine, wife to one and mom to five. My husband and I read The China

Study last year and decided to go about implementing the diet for our

family. We have transitioned slowly, first cutting back on meat and dairy

and then switching to vegetarian, only eating meat when we were out. Now we

are ready to take the next step, completely vegan.

This is the part hat makes me nervous, making sure my kids get everything

they need, enough calories, enough fat, etc. I have purchased Vive le Vegan

by Dreena Burton and have ordered Vegan Vittles by Joanne Stepaniak and

Healthy Eating for Life for Children by Physician's Committee for

Responsible Medicine. Do you folks have any other recommendations for us?

Looking forward to being part of the group!

For cookbooks I really like dreena burton's eat drink and be vegan

(excuse the lack of caps, I'm nursing a babe- typing one hand). She's

a mom also and I find her recipes quick and nutritous.

I also love all of Isa Chandra moscowitz's cookbooks.

Hi,

I recently posted my favorite books for veg families here:

http://vegbooks.org/index.php/2010/01/14/the-baby-shower-list/

The PCRM book is on there, but so is Vegan Lunchbox, Vegan Family Favorites, and

Raising Vegetarian Children: A Guide to Good Health and Family Harmony.

Good luck!

Jessica

Hi Christine

Hands down: " Becoming Vegan: The Complete Guide to Adopting a Healthy

Plant-Based Diet " by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina. Not a cook book, but an

easy to read book on vegan nutrition during all phases of your life. It points

out the potential pitfalls and will set your mind at ease. Very balanced.

Fantastic book!

Christine,

Congrats! ( " wife to one " ... very funny!)

I recommend Food for Life: How the New Four Food Groups Can Save Your Life, by

Dr. Neal Barnard.

http://www.amazon.com/Food-Life-Four-Groups-Save/dp/0517882019

It lays the foundation for a healthy diet: what to eat and why. Also what not

to eat and why, but sounds like you are already hip to that part.

Once you learn the basics it's really just a matter of choosing from an

abundance of prepared foods and recipes. For recipes, there are many popular

books, and you can Google <whatever you have in your refrigerator/pantry> +

" vegan " + " recipe " and you'll get plenty of choices.

Another option in lieu of the above book is to read the related info on the PCRM

web site:
