B12. Many people say that your body won't absorb it the same way when it's not from an animal product. Is this true??? How do I make sure my daughter gets enough. I really don't want to do anything wrong. Thanks for your support. >
Guest guest
You may want to check out the book " The Complete Idiot's Guide to Vegan Eating for Kids " , which has tons of info about B12 and other nutrients that parents of vegan kids need to be especially informed about. My husband (who is a University of Wisconsin-trained Family Medicine M.D.) and I just wrote it (and many people on this VRG group helped with our survey for the book...thank you!). The book has the most recent info about B12 (which does need supplementation for vegan pregnant or breastfeeding moms, babies and children, no doubt) and other nutrients, as well as lots of reassuring advice from vegan families. The book is so new I haven't even seen a completed copy myself yet from the publisher, but you can find a link to pre-order it on amazon.com at our website www.veganeatingforkids.com. Best Wishes! Guest guest
That's so cool that you (along with others) wrote that book! I am looking forward to reading it! --- On Fri, 2/12/10, Dana Villamagna <dana.villamagna wrote: Dana Villamagna <dana.villamagna Re: New Vegan Mom Friday, February 12, 2010, 11:04 AM  You may want to check out the book " The Complete Idiot's Guide to Vegan Eating for Kids " , which has tons of info about B12 and other nutrients that parents of vegan kids need to be especially informed about. Guest guest
Thank you for the podcasts. They are really good. My husband and I have been listening to one each night. She is really good. Thanks for that. , Christina Weyrick-Cooper <cwhy1 wrote: > > > Hi Sherry, > I'm mom to a vegan toddler (3 years old), who has been vegan since birth. I understand your worries so well. I found so much reassurance in Colleen Patrick Goodreau's podcasts. And you can so easily listen to them while your baby is nursing or sleeping. The first two I'd recommend listening to are The Essential Vitamin: B12 and Skipping the Middle Man. Both are near the end of this page: http://feeds.feedburner.com/VegetarianFoodForThought > > Also, I highly recommend nursing for at least two years. Everyone is questioning how I'm going to raise her. I want her to be vegan. I have read a lot on this topic but still find that I'm not that confident in my decision. It would really help if I get in touch with Vegan parents and if they could tell me their success stories. This will ensure me that I'm not alone and that my daughter is going to grow up to be healthy and strong. One topic that really worries me in particular is vit. B12.
