Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm looking for a recommendation on a book for my book club about the reasons for being vegetarian. I'm looking for something along the lines of " Diet for a new America " but a little more recent. I would love for it to take a gentle, educational, presentation of the facts approach that would be accessible for meat-eaters. I don't want to put everyone in the group on the defensive but I would love a way to start a dialogue on the issue with my book club. Any recommendations? Thanks!! Guest guest
Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer has recently been on best sellers list, I think, and is a pretty compelling read, and not too off-putting for meat-eaters in my opinion. Guest guest
I agree that " Eating Animals " is a good pick. Another one would be " The Face on Your Plate. " Jacqueline
Guest guest
I can also vouch for Eating Animals. It really is a great read and I think it might open an excellent discussion amongst omnivores and vegetarians. Guest guest
I recommend reading " Harvest for Hope " by Jane Goodall. It has a lot of good information about vegetarianism but also discusses other issues facibg our food supply. The chapters include things like Animal Factories: Farms of misery; animals to us; and becoming vegetarian. But like I said it has a lot of info about other things going on with our food supply. Guest guest
Would that be targeted to younger readers or more for adults?  I would love for my mature 12 year old daughter to read a book that would inspire her and teach her about being healthy . --- On Tue, 3/23/10, Mandy Deir <mandydeir wrote: Mandy Deir <mandydeir Re: Book Club Recommendation Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 9:41 AM  I can also vouch for Eating Animals. Guest guest
The China Study by Colin Campbell is a great book that shows why a plant-based diet is best for optimal health and presents scientific data to support this. The book is a gentle eye-opener! Antoinette
Guest guest
I have a 12 year old and if I could inspire her to be a reader (i'm trying!) I would give her this book to read. Its not a hard read at all, the language is not technical and there is nothing in it a 12 year old couldn't handle. ________________________________ nellie schwartz <nevrenson Wed, March 24, 2010 9:06:49 AM Re: Book Club Recommendation Would that be targeted to younger readers or more for adults?
