Guest guest
Shayla, thanks for the info. I will check out the Solaray the next time I am up there. Here is another question for you. Which doctor do you use for your kids? We are looking for a new pediatrician and want to find someone who will understand our vegetarian lifestyle and how it affects our kids. Any recommendations? Chessie wisheyemay [happyvegan] Monday, April 11, 2005 3:49 PM Probiotics, was Re: antibiotics Chessie, I've used several, but the one I'm currently using is Solaray, non- dairy, freeze-dried Multidophilus in powder form. It has to be refrigerated (supposedly the refrigerated kinds are more potent). I sprinkle it in soymilk or smoothies, or in a pinch, dissolve a little in room temperature water and drink it. I've even been known to sprinkle it on my kid's almond butter and jam sandwich. It doesn't taste like anything, so I don't get any complaints. I get it at Dodson's. I haven't seen that kind anywhere else, but then again I haven't looked. The avocado sandwich is my husband's favorite. He leaves early for work so he has time to go get one. Lucky guy. I wish I had an excuse to go every day. *g* Shayla , " Chessie " <vegetariyum@c...> wrote: > > Shayla, what probiotic do you recommend and where do you get it? Guest guest
Chessie, We don't actually use a doctor much, but we had a fabulous doctor (who practiced with that evil Dr. Camacho in ardmore) who was very accepting of veganism and homebirthing and non-vax'ing... He recently went back to be with his family in India. They assigned us to Evil Camacho, but we haven't gone to him since my first was a baby, and I probably won't start now. My chiropractor (veg-friendly, and close friends with Brookview's chef) gave me a name of another doctor (in ardmore) who I think is a vegetarian himself, but I lost the number. I'm going to get it from her again when I go later this week or next week. I'd like to have someone I could trust and who was open about my lifestyle be " on staff. " That way I know I can get the kids in if we ever need to. If you happen to find any before I can, let me know, okay? Shayla , " Chessie " <vegetariyum@c...> wrote: > > Shayla, thanks for the info. Guest guest
So, I have decided we should go on probiotics. Hopefully it will help my 16mo olds eczema! So I need one for her and for me and this is what I am looking for: vegan (a must) no soy (a must) organic (if not, no chemicals or pesticides) no gluten (would be nice) any ideas? I have not been able to find one like this. Thanks a lot, Elisa
Guest guest
Check out http://www.culturelle.com At the moment our 7yr old takes the adult dairy/gluten free product that comes in a vegetarian capsule. It's 10billion cells lactobacillusGG. It states on the box that it can be used for infants and children. " open 1 capsule and mix into cool drink or food, once per day. " " all natural dietary supplement " They also make a kids version that is 1billion cells lactobacillusGG in a packet. It states that it is " free of: dairy, artificial dyes, colors, preservatives, flavors, yeast, wheat, gluten, lactose or corn " Other than the strength, the only difference seems to be that the adult version has only the lactobacillus and Inulin. The kids version has those 2 ingredients plus mannitol and silicon dioxide. The mannitol is a sweetener used in diabetic foods (a sugar alcohol), and silicon dioxide (anti-caking agent) As a pharmacy tech, I chose the 10 billion product as I didn't want the other 2 ingredients. If you don't see it at your drug store, go to the pharmacy counter and they should be able to order it in for you from their wholesaler. Our daughter's pediatrician (MD + homeopath) started treating her eczema at 10months, it's been gone for quite a while now. A Major player in any type of skin rebuilding is omega 3. Your skin must have them in the system in order to do any repair work. Imagine building a brick wall without the bricks. Here's what Dr. Ben Kim had to say about silicon dioxide and children in his newsletter from 11/2009 - http://drbenkim.com/ " If you're supporting your health with any of our premium food powder supplements, please note that for best results, you need to use a blender or at least a container that has a lid that allows for vigorous shaking. Our food powder supplements don't easily dissolve without the use of a blender or a vigorous shaking because we choose not to include any dissolving agents like silicon dioxide. If a food powder dissolves pretty easily in liquid, chances are good that it comes with silicon dioxide. The problem with silicon dioxide is that if you inhale even very small quantities, over time, enough silicon dioxide dust can become lodged in your lungs or elsewhere in your respiratory tract to cause silicosis, bronchitis, or possibly even cancer. Silica doesn't dissolve over time, so the effects of silica exposure are cumulative. In my opinion, everyone should avoid silicon dioxide, but young children, the elderly, and people who have asthma or any other health challenge related to the respiratory tract should take extra care to avoid exposure. When we don't use a blender to mix our food supplements, we mix them with a liquid in a jar with tight-fitting lid and give it a solid shake for at least ten seconds. Guest guest
Natogen isn't clear if it's vegan or not. One place says it's free of milk protein, and another says it has it. http://www.rockwellnutrition.com/hmf-natogen-no-fos-infant-probiotic-by-genestra\ ..html On the ingredients page it states it is lactose free but does contain Casein. 26.5mg Lactose - The lactose base is an important energy source for breast and bottle fed babies derived from milk but free of casein. Below that it says HMF Natogen contains NO casein, wheat, gluten, soy, corn, nuts or other common allergens. And are manufactured in a nut free facility. On the description page it states No carriers except lactose (dairy free). , " Sherry " <sherryzarif wrote: > > Hi Elisa, > > I give my daughter who is 8 months old a probiotic. Its called NATOGEN and it is by Genestra. My nutritionist recommended it and it seems to meet what you are looking for. There is another one by the same brand that is for older children. Hope this helps. > > Sherry > > , " ejsrejsr " <elisaelisa@> wrote: > > > > So, I have decided we should go on probiotics. Hopefully it will help my 16mo olds eczema! Guest guest
I give my kids (2 1/2 and 3 months) Udo's infant probiotics. It's a powder so I can put it in a smoothie for the toddler and pumped breastmilk for the baby. They have tablets for older kids also. , " Sherry " <sherryzarif wrote: > > Hi Elisa, > > I give my daughter who is 8 months old a probiotic. Its called NATOGEN and it is by Genestra. Guest guest
We use Yum Yum Dophilus from Jarrow- no wheat, gluten, dairy or egg but does say trace amounts of soy. No sugar, uses xylitol for sweetener. Bea
