Guest guest
Hi Minnie! I like to put coconut oil on a washcloth and keep it close when I shower. After I towel off, if my skin feels dry, I run the washcloth over my body. It lasts a long time and, since coconut oil is a natural anti-microbial, it doesn't grow critters. That provides enough oil to moisturize without having so much it gets on my clothes. From all the readings I have found, it is one of the only natural products that the human body (skin) will readily accept down the first three layers of skin. Hence it's abundant use is skin healing products. I did not memorize those three layers names. -- Bill Schoolcraft | http://wiliweld.com " If your life was full of nothing but sunshine, you would just be a desert. Guest guest
Tommie, that is a good idea - using a cloth. I don't use the coconut oil daily however more in the winter than the summer. Bill, I had not thought about the aloe and think I will use it on those days I don't use the coconut oil. Computer problems resolved so I feel I am getting back among the living again! Guest guest
Bill - I used aloe vera gel (a high quality one) a few weeks ago - and I didn't like how it made me feel afterwards. It feels sticky and drying. I had a rash on my neck and it cleared up the rash - but I didn't like how it felt on my neck and arms. What brand do you use? I use coconut oil everyday on my face and arms. I love how it feels. Judy On 4/28/06, Trish Burrows <sunflowers2 wrote: > > Tommie, that is a good idea - using a cloth. Guest guest
Talking about lotions, I had a burn the other day from my hot oven. It was a small burn, the one which would normally leave a mark on your hand. I applied potato juice to it when I got it and then the next day I applied coconut oil. I applied coconut oil continously for a few days. I have no mark left of the burn. However, I have a small existing burn mark on my hand of a previous burn wonder if any one knows which raw foods could get rid of an existing burn mark. Guest guest
Trish, I make my own lotions etc.. but I find that for my skin all I need is the olive oil .. I put it on right after I bath..just around my eyes, not on my nose as I am oily there anyway... but on my cheeks to my chin in a diagonal. Then I will put on my arms and hands.. Rub good into my nails and cuticles.. it is very light..a little goes a long way.. and it doesn't clog pores...soaks in fast..doesnt leave an oily feel either. I love coconut oil but can not use it until winter... too oily for me in the hot months. Sad to say... I might just make this as a lotion to sell..lol instead of my lotion I sell now. I have not found a formula yet I like for that... Also... I have a little bottle I put the oil in for the bathroom so I do not have any glass in there. it is a little flip top 2 oz.and it lasts all month and then some.. probably more..I never kept track but it lasts long.. I use olive oil in everything from uncooking, lotion, making my soaps.. everything.. My family is from Sicily so I figure.. I was supposed to reap the benefits of it.. Guest guest
I have been told that emu oil is good for scars... but since you are raw you may not want to use that. Helichrysum oil and Rosehip oil are also very good Debbie terry garner <terrygarner79 wrote: .......... wonder if any one knows which raw foods could get rid of an existing burn mark. Guest guest
This sounds like a great summer time lotion/oil. I am in NC now and will be moving soon to FL and was wondering about the warmer climate and if my cocount oil/lotion would be to much, especially during the summer months. I have a small dropper bottle I can fill and leave in the shower. Thanks for your suggestion as I also going to try it on my cuticles, should be great as part of my manicure treatment. Guest guest
It has helped my nails a bunch.. Of course eating raw has also but I am finding the oil keeps the nail flexible and helps it to grow... I have to now keep cutting my nails back because they grow so fast. lol Trish Burrows <sunflowers2 wrote: ........ Guest guest
Not really a vegan question, but does anyone know about the various ingredients in lotions? I am looking for an organic lotion, and Dr. Bronner's seems to be the only one. Does anyone have a problem with cetyl alcohol as an ingredient? How important is an " organic " lotion when it comes to children's health? Do you know of any other organic lotions? Many thanks, June
Guest guest
I use California Baby on my kids. I like the super sensitive line they have. Have you seen this website before? www.cosmeticsdatabase.com You can search for a cosmetic product (including soaps and lotions) and find out the ingredients, if those ingredients are safe, how the ingredients effect you, etc. It's a fantastic site for determining if what you are using is safe or potentially harmful to you. With children I am very particular and think they need fragrance free sensitive care. --- On Fri, 4/2/10, wjune99 <june wrote: wjune99 <june LOTION Friday, April 2, 2010, 4:48 PM  Not really a vegan question, but does anyone know about the various ingredients in lotions? Guest guest
We use essential oils for daily skin care and dry or irritated skin. Some oils are great for rashes and skin issues like keratosis pilaris, which I have on the tops of my thighs and used to have on the backs of my upper arms. I used a mixture of rosemary, lavender, and tea tree oil with an almond oil base to get rid of it on my arms and its almost all cleared up on my legs. Most essential oils need to be diluted with a base oil like almond oil or grape seed oil. It needs to be even more so diluted for children. They are very powerful and should be used with caution. So I suggest educating yourself on a few of the main ones like lavender, rosemary, peppermint, tea tree, eucalyptus, sweet orange, marjoram, lemon grass, and cedar wood. They all have great properties and my family uses them daily. Here is a link to a trusted website with info and you can also purchase them here as well. http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/ Usually you can find them at health food stores and food co ops. Good luck! Warm regards, Diane Brown, CMT Solace Therapeutic Massage Office: (517) 324-3400 Cell: (517) 285-8873 5093 E. Guest guest
Hi, im not sure if you have it in america, but i used gaia organic baby products. Now he is older, he uses what i use, which is Sukin Products, again not sure if you get them in US. My mum used to tell me that we should soak all the toxins off us in a bath 2-3 times a week, so if your soaking toxins off than there is little point in putting toxins in the bath to soak in! If you can find Sukin over there than i highly recommend it. Its vegan and chemical free, its also pretty cheap in relation to other 'natural' products. http://sukinorganics.com.au/ Anyway this is prob not very helpful if its not in the US, but if anyone is keen to try it im happy to buy it and send it over to you. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone. I really appreciate the input. My friend says that coconut oil also works well on eczema. I'll look into essential oils and Sukin... although, in supporting the company being sustainable, would love to find a similar product locally vs.. Australia.
