Guest guest
Hi All, I am a pretty healthy vegan (except for honey), I do not eat sugar, almost all whole grains and fresh fruits and veggies. I have decided that I want to gain 5-10 pounds. That may not sound like much, but I am only 105 pounds and I am breastfeeding my 17mo old who still has more milk then food. I also do not want to give up eating healthy foods, so more hummus, oils, nuts... I already do that so I am not sure what to do. I bought avacados the other day which I do not normaally do since my dd hates them and I usually eat only things that she can eat too. Any suggestions? thanks so much Elisa
Guest guest
This may soun crazy but some sumo wrestlers are vegetarian and they are huge. The way they gain weight is by increasing their consumption. It sounds like you are tryig to add all the good fats but don't under value the impact that an increase in the volume of food you eat has on weight gain. Guest guest
Maybe if you make some delicious pudding with the avocados, your daughter would like that. Maybe you could add it to smoothies, dressings, or soups, and she won't notice anything but the creamy texture. Marilyn ejsrejsr <elisaelisa Tue, Apr 27, 2010 6:26 pm help me gain weight! Guest guest
How is your carb intake? I seem to gain weight when I increase my carbs by eating them at each meal and an extra serving or two sometimes. Try eating more brown rice, whole wheat pastas, whole wheat breads, crackers, etc. Maybe try baking some homemade muffins or other sweets. Also, try increasing your nuts and nut butters. That makes me gain weight too. I will spread peanut butter on everything! If those fail then maybe try weight gainer shakes which contain as much as 2000 calories. I've seen them in health stores. Good luck! , " ejsrejsr " <elisaelisa wrote: > > Hi All, > > I am a pretty healthy vegan (except for honey), I do not eat sugar, almost all whole grains and fresh fruits and veggies. Guest guest
Thank you everyone! I am adding a layer to everything now... olive oil on top too, toast is no longer just walnut butter but now coconut oil first and sometimes honey on top. HOpefully it will all add up. If not I will start digging into the coconut icecream in the freezer, good idea! I am just not used to eating that stuff! thanks again elisa
Guest guest
coconut oil may actually make you lose weight. I know it sounds crazy but it speeds metabolism in some people. A few summers ago I ate a ton of raw chocolate pie (has coconut oil) and lost 10lbs! , " ejsrejsr " <elisaelisa wrote: > > Thank you everyone! > > I am adding a layer to everything now... olive oil on top too, toast is no longer just walnut butter but now coconut oil first and sometimes honey on top. Guest guest
Hemp seeds, chia, flax in nut/seed mylks as a cereal. Macadamia porridge. Yes luv avocados in a salad dressing. Banana sesame seed mylk shakes r soo yummy. Any & all nut & seed butters on baked Mochi. I'm nursing a 20month & occasionally 4yr old & I gain a bit when I indulge in more nuts & seeds so maybe those will add variety. Guest guest
Oh I forgot fresh olives (our 20month old eats a ton of these!) & coconut (my kiddos LOVE a freshly cracked one, meat & juice). I occasionally gorge out on fresh popped popcorn w coconut butter although we're trying to do as much raw as possible. We do a yummy Asian themed raw salad w spiralized cucumbers, zuchinnis & thawed coconut noodles & the sauce has coconut too, yum I think I'll make some soon! Guest guest
My daughter is 18 months old and I also have had issues with low weight for myself and for her. I started putting avocado in daily smoothies (she has some too) and it's been good for both of us! She went through a major growth spurt and I've been feeling a little more filled out. It just makes the smoothie taste more creamy. Guest guest
Thanks again everyone! I am actually my 'normal' weight, but I want to be a bit bigger, I think it is just from breastfeeding because my DD is very healthy and not at all low weight. I will keep trying everyhing and hopefully slowly I will gain a few pounds elisa
