Guest guest
Hi all, I've had some recent medical problems that have resulted in a diagnosis of mild irritable bowel disease (IBD), " probably Crohn's. " After ditching a truly horrible GI doctor, I have started seeing one who is more patient-friendly and who actually talks to my other doctor. My issue? During my initial consult, the doctor was reviewing my file from my previous GI doc and said, " You're not vegan, are you? " I asked whether it was in my chart, and he said " no, " but that he believes completely abstaining from animal protein can be a factor in this kind of medical problem. He suggested that even a single egg or glass of cow-milk a week could make a significant difference. Now I know that doctors have no training in nutrition, and that some people have found that a vegan diet eases the symptoms of Crohn's (could be a very good reason for why mine is only " mild " ), but I'm looking for a little reassurance, especially since my 4-year-old daughter has begun to complain of intestinal pain and I know there's a genetic component to Crohn's. Are there any people on this list with Crohn's, or whose children have it? If so, how have you modified your diet? Guest guest
Hi Jessica, Here is a paper that Dr. Michael Greger wrote some time ago, but it has some good information. He is an excellent resource: http://www.mad-cow.org/00/paraTB.html Leena On May 11, 2010, at 10:12 AM, Jessica Almy wrote: > > Hi all, > > I've had some recent medical problems that have resulted in a > diagnosis of mild irritable bowel disease (IBD), " probably Crohn's.
