Guest guest
I heard that they are supposed to come out with a " McVeggie " Sandwich--in fact they are already out in seattle. Hopefully they will spread them all over the country. But I still don't think that I would ever go to McDonalds...Just don't trust ANY fast food..... Guest guest
Hello all, It's been interesting to me reading the posts on the group. I'm a " vegetarian " not for political or ethical reasons, but simply because I don't like the texture of red meat or pork in my mouth. It feels too stringy. . .too much like (what it is) muscle fiber. This is one of the reasons I don't care for TVP: it feels TOO much like dead animals in my mouth. Maybe once a month I'll eat dead chicken (and even that freaks me out occasionally). And every few months I get a craving for raw, dead fish, also known as " sushi. " And, for whatever reason, it REALLY freaks me out to watch my friends eat wings or ribs. . .there's just something SO barbaric going on there that it kills me! There's no way in HAYALL that I could gnaw meat off a bone. I've evolved some in the last million years or so. . . While I DO share the belief with most of you that the hormones and chemicals that we (as a collective society) are pumping into our food--BOTH VEGETABLE and animal--are unhealthy for us in ways we've yet to begin to understand, it amazes me how " anti-establishment " so many of my fellow vegetarians seem to be! Being an openly gay man I understand how much the world needs to open their collective eyes, yet I also understand how we need to work WITHIN the system in order to affect change. If I seem like I'm rambling, please keep reading. . . I, for one, would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! to be able to pull up to a MickeyD's drive thru and order an honest to goodness veggie burger to go for a couple of bucks and drive off full and satisfied! I'm not content with condiments and cheese and a few slices of wilted lettuce on a shitty bun being called a " vegetarian alternative. " GIVE ME SOME TEMPEH OR TOFU OR SOMETHING!!!!!! I want something that I can bite into. If it's cooked on the same flat-top grill as a dead cow, then so be it. Little steps make way for BIG steps. " Thank God for little miracles " I believe the cliche goes. .. .. I know my Vegan compadres will disagree with me on this, but some of us avoid meat and meat products for purely epicurean reasons. And if we can get a veggie burger cooked up in a MickyDeez on the same grill as the dead cows are cooked, don't you think we can eventually get a Vegan grill? It's a long shot, but we've got to start somewhere! There's enough of us out here. . .let's speak up! Thanks to all who've sent recipes...I've enjoyed them! ..james. Guest guest
McDonald's has veggie burgers in England, thanks to all the mad cow disease over there & nobody wants to eat cow meat with bacteria that is not destroyable. But, even if they come out with a veggie burger here, by spending our money @ McD's, we are still supporting the company which sells cow & chicken & fish burgers. I think the saddest thing about all of the fast food chains is how kid friendly they try to be. Try to get kids to want to come their and eat their poison. Nothing but cancer causing food, then McD's wants you to donate money to help the kids they helped make sick. It is hard to trust them even if they have a veg burger, because they could be putting it on the same grill that a cow patty just got fried on. If I am craving a fast food burger & can't get rid of the craving, I will go to Burger King & order a veggie whopper without the mayo. It is the whopper without the meat. I never eat it without thoroughly examining the bun. Some people will try to put this on a bun that has burger remains on it. BK charges .99 to 1.09 in Georgia, for this, which is about a buck off the regular whopper price. I know I am still supporting a meat food joint by doing this, so I do this very rarely. I'm sure you all know what it is like to crave the taste, but not want to eat the flesh. Guest guest
The McDonalds website gives a complete list of ingredients for all their products, a very few of which claim to have no animal products, but they have a disclaimer that nothing on the menu is certified vegetarian because anything in the restaurant kitchen might be mingled with anything else. The cheeseburger without the meat pattie is still cooked on the grill with with the others. Be kind. Be of good cheer. Dick Ford
Guest guest
>I dont know if you get Wimpey in the USA but they do >a chicken style >Quorn burger coated in a crunchy maize coating. Hi, yes isn't this a nice list??? ;=) I love it here and will look forward to talking to you. About Wimpey: I don't think they do have them in the USA - can't remember seeing them outside the UK ;=) I also haven't seen Quorn here (in Canada), but I understand that Quorn, while vegetarian, isn't vegan - am I right? Something about egg in it? Guest guest
Me again. Not that I meant to suggest that it was necessary for vegetarians that their burgers, Quorn or other, should be egg free ;=) Just that it woulda been nice if there was something as good (by reputation - I've never had it) that was also vegan and would make *everyone* happy. That's all. *lol* Pat in Montreal ===== psybermus Lists: townhounds/ / htto://vegetarianslimming/ Homepage: http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ----

Guest guest
If you haven't seen it, rent McLibel - very good information about how bad and unethical a company they really are. Not that Burger King or Wendy's et al are really any better, but informatve documentary non the less. ~Susan On Apr 18, 2008, at 2:44 PM, robin koloms wrote: > Not only that, their cows have destroyed thousands of acres of > rainforest and contributed dramatically to global warming. Guest guest
Hey! Is there anything at McDonalds on the breakfast menu that is vegan and gluten free? I keep thinking, but nothing comes to mind besides orange juice and black coffee. P.
Guest guest
Other possibilities, but you'll have to double-check: - hash browns - apples & caramel - ice tea I don't know if they offer garden salad during the a.m., I don't go there. Guest guest
You can always check the main McDonald's website for the ingredients listing-I had checked a few years ago hoping that my kids could have the grilled chicken salad--no doing--the seasonings on the chicken are NOT gluten free. Guest guest
I'm not vegan, but often caramel is made by melting brown sugar and butter. Given the franken-aspect of mass food production, their caramel may not have either... ;-) Other possibilities, but you'll have to double-check: - hash browns - apples & caramel - ice tea . Guest guest
Often has powdered milk in it too. But I was thinking you could order the apples and caramel and throw out the caramel, which is just a little dipping tub and not poured over the apples. For a while they had an apple, grape, and walnut salad for breakfast. That was three years ago, though, I don't know if it is still an option anywhere. Guest guest
Hash browns are fried in the same oil so high cross contamination risk and I'd also double check the ingredients as their fries contain wheat and beef fat! I got the apples and caramel there once a few years back when I was with someone who just had to stop and get a big mac! I got sick on them! I got sick on their salad the one time I had in many years ago too! I just avoid them at all cost. For a fast breakfast that taste good and is healthy I would recommend Amy's scrambled tofu. I was skeptical about microwaving hash browns, but it turned out really good! Going through a drive thru for breakfast just doesn't seem like an option for us yet. I imagine within a few years we will have some choices but for now, the microwave breakfast are about as close as you can get. Amy's also has cream of rice, which I haven't tried yet. I've also made up a big batch of scrambled tofu and sausages (search archives) and made up individual meals in containers that I could quickly heat and eat. Leftover pizza makes a great breakfast too! Guest guest
Here's the ingredient list of their foods: http://nutrition.mcdonalds.com/bagamcmeal/nutrition_ingredients.html If I'm out and about, and want a quick bite, I'd be safer going to a grocery store and grabbing some fruit and a bagged salad rather than going to McDonalds! Guest guest
I believe they use beef " flavouring " in the hashbrowns and french fries. Guest guest
Another thing to be concerned about in many restaurants is that produce is often spayed with a preservative to keep it fresher longer. There may or may not be gluten in the spays used, but they are chemicals that many have sensitivities too. Salad isn't always the safe choice! I've gotten really sick on plain salads from a lot of places! Wendy's baked potato is my fast food choice whenever I'm out and need a quick bite. I carry a lunch box with an ice pack and condiments so I don't have to worry what place has what. Ordering salads, even at nicer places, usually need to be sent back at least once, often 2 or 3 times! I only order salads when I'm really craving one and cross my fingers and hope they get it right the first time! lol If you frequent a place though, they get to know you, and that is always a good thing as long as your a courteous and patient customer, which can be difficult at times! Don't be rude to the people handling your food! lol Also many placed serve bread with salad now too, so you have to remember no croutons and no bread, and no cheese, and no dressing, and no meat, etc. (I have an entire wait staff speech in my head! lol) On Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 4:32 PM, Susan Haggerty <haggboys03wrote: > You can always check the main McDonald's website for the ingredients > listing-I had checked a few years ago hoping that my kids could have the > grilled chicken salad--no doing--the seasonings on the chicken are NOT > gluten free. > > Susan > Front Royal, VA > > --- On Fri, 11/21/08, Penelope Schneider <tuba.gypsie<tuba.gypsie%40>> > wrote: > > Penelope Schneider <tuba.gypsie <tuba.gypsie%40>> > McDonalds > To: <%40> > Friday, November 21, 2008, 4:22 PM > > > Hey! > > Is there anything at McDonalds on the breakfast menu that is vegan and > gluten free?
