Gluten

 

Question

How can I tell if a Kraft product contains gluten?

 

Answer

We understand how important it is for people who have been

medically diagnosed with gluten sensitivity to have accurate

information about foods to help plan their meals and diets.

Therefore, it has been a long standing policy for all Kraft and

Nabisco products to list ingredients that contain gluten on the

ingredient statement. These items will be listed using commonly known

terms such as Wheat, Barley, Oats or Rye. For other ingredients that

contain gluten, the grain source will be declared in parenthesis

after the ingredient name. For example, if the ingredient " natural

flavor " contains a gluten source, the label would read: natural

flavor (contains rye). Other ingredients that contain gluten are:

Triticale, Spelt, Kamut, Mir or Farina (also known as Far or Farro).

 

 

For Kraft-branded products that contain vinegar, information from our

vinegar suppliers assures us that the vinegar we use in our products

is gluten free. All vinegar is distilled and through the distilling

process protein gluten is removed.

The link didn't work. You have to go to the main page, click Healthy living,

then click on articles and then click on food allergies and sensitivities,

and then click on gluten sensitivities. It's just a basic What is gluten

info and you should read labels carefully if you have this problem! The " new

and confused " info that's everywhere!

 

I honestly don't think Kraft even makes any " safe " products! The last time I

spoke with them, which was probably close to a year ago, they said they had

no gluten free products nor did they have any intentions of making any!

 

When I think of Kraft, I think wheat and cheese! It's kind of odd that they

have an article about gluten sensitives on their site when they are the

gluten kings of the food industry! I honestly wouldn't even trust eating

anything they may put out that would be supposedly safe!

 

Thanks for posting the info though. I'm not trying to be negative towards

you in any way, I just find it odd that this info is from Kraft! They are

the last company on Earth I'd expect to see gluten sensitivity info from! I

guess the world really is changing! LOL I still wouldn't trust them, but

it's nice to know they are trying to evolve with the times!

each one has there own opinions and I feel Kraft is safe on alot of products.

 it has been so far for me and im highly sensitive I get the least amount of

wheat gluten etc in me and im in the hospital.I check about once a month from

each brand of things to be sure. cause im tired of hospitals.

But if you dont  trust them that is yours and alot of other peoples opinion.

I also make most of my own stuff, I " ve been on this diet with food allergies for

along time.

 

This diet is challenging.

I have been searching for hours now and the only kraft product that I found

that may potentially be GF and vegan is their BBQ sauce. Keep in mind though

that Kraft believes that all vinager is GF because it's distilled! Also, I

can't confirm what type of sweatner is used but it most likely is not vegan!

 

I know everybody here is not vegan and I personally do not strickly follow

the diet, but I do have problems with dairy, which most with celiac do. Some

cheeses may be GF, and if your not vegan and can enjoy cheese, ENJOY!

Kraft was not mentioned at all! Keep in mind that this is is only GF

products. You have to double check other allergens and weed out products you

don't want (ie. meat, dairy).

If you are vegan, I'd recommend avoiding Kraft products.

I mostly agree with you Jae, but Miracle Whip is inherently gluten-free

(distilled vinegars do not contain proteins and their vinegar is made from

corn anyway). It's also only run on lines with other mayonnaise-type

products so the risk of cross-contamination for vegan purpose is the egg.

 

On the other hand, Kraft is one of those big companies which just doesn't

care, like Hain.

Kraft is correct according to the American and Canadian Dietetic

Associations. This information was studied intensely an released about 3

years ago. All distilled products are considered gluten-free because no

particulates of protein pass through in the distillation process.

 

That said, Kraft uses corn-based veingars anyway, like Heinz so there never

was a chance of gluten particulates.

 

You are right about the sugar not likely being vegan. There was one plant

producing truly vegan and organic sugar in the US and it was destroyed in a

fire in the summer.

 

Most companies, those which don't really care about minority customer needs,

like Kraft, don't bother to test their products for the top 8 allergens

which is why they will not say they are gluten, soy, casein or other free.

 

In my opinion, responsible companies will make the effort to test and will

let you know what they have tested and to what parts per million.

Distilled vinegar should be safe, regardless of the source. However I know a

lot of people who have gotten sick from them. Perhaps they also have a

sensitivity to vinegar! I don't know. I personally do not trust any company

that does not clearly label their products as being free of allergens or

containing allergens. There are plenty of companies catering to my needs and

those are the companies that get my business! I will happily pay twice as

much for a product if I'm sure it's safe. That's just my opinion and

approach to food. I've spent most of my life hovered over a toilet and I

don't care to go back to that just to save a few bucks! IMO your really not

saving anything! Your actually paying way more than you should!

Possibily they have a reaction to alcohol, like me. All vinegars have a low

percentage of alcohol from what I understand.
