Guest guest
I just cut out all animal products and diet soda/all soda pop Tuesday and it's now Saturday. I now have solid waste (first in 6 monthes or longer) without using Immodium AD(not to be gross). I am having severe headaches from caffeine withdrawal. (Drinking 1 cup of coffee per day to easy on the caffeine slower.) I have energy without caffeine. No more night sweats after drinking soy milk before bead. Are these benefits just in my head or is vegan diet changeover capable of increasing your health so drastically so fast? MichelleS
Guest guest
ITS VERY REAL! :-) Congratulations! In the hope of helping you feel more secure with your own experience, when I first made my initial changes and improvements of diet, I began to see improvements within hours, so several days seems quite conservative. :-) Even better news is that improvements in health will probably continue to show up over the next 6 weeks... and longer. Its great that your body is leaping enthusiastically into taking advantage of improvements you are making possible. My initial improvement was loss of a chronic headache I'd had most of my life. I started sleeping well, dreaming, feeling energetic and happy. By the end of 6 weeks, the increasing joint aches and pains that had me almost chair-bound, were all gone. I was able to run up and down stairs again. Way to go! Keep up the good work! Deborah I just cut out all animal products and diet soda/all soda pop Tuesday and it's now Saturday. Guest guest
It's not all in your head! Your body is detoxing. The headaches are common but should pass within 2 weeks. They usually don't last that long but they can. Soda has a lot of fructose which can cause loose bile movements. There are a lot of nasty chemicals in soda too! Diet being even worse for your body! I'm glad you kicked that habit! Did you know you can put coke in your toilet overnight and it will clean the bowl spotless! Even the stains that nothing else can clean off! Imagine what it does to your insides! You can try herbal teas like chamomile to calm and relax you. It can help ease your detox process. If your into aromatherapy or interested in trying it, my headache remedy is 4 drops lavender, 5 drops peppermint and 4 drops rosemary, put in an oil diffuser or put on a Kleenex/cotton ball in a baggy and carry with you to whiff as you work to help you through the day. Make sure your using pure essential oils as fragrance oils contain chemicals that can actually make you feel worse. Also drink lots of water! The more the better as it will help flush the toxins out of your body and make the detox process go faster. You can also try some Valerian root which is a natural relaxant that has no side effects and is not addictive. I'm glad your feeling better. Hope some of these ideas help! Don't give up, your getting healthy! Good Luck! Guest guest
Our insides are not metal and therefore can not rust! There are lots of chemicals and even pharmaceuticals in tap water that does not get filtered out and yes drinking all that crap on a constant basis can damage your health. That is why we have bottled waters and fancy filtration systems and pitchers to make our water healthier to drink! Sodas on the other hand are highly acidic and although our insides are not like a toilet bowl, they are more sensitive and easily damaged by high amounts of acid! So no the sodas are not cleaning the gunk out of our stomachs but instead are eating holes through it! Yum! :/ On Sat, Jan 10, 2009 at 5:34 PM, Shannon West <shanwest wrote: > At 11:34 AM 1/10/2009, you wrote: > >Did you know you can put coke in your toilet > >overnight and it will clean the bowl spotless! Guest guest
It's now 1am here but feeling alot better. My headache is just a dull pain I can live with. I've slept off and on all day. I think my body is going through shock! Drinking nothing but filtered water from the fridge. Ate: Bowl of vegan soup, vegan salad with cabbage, iceburg, almonds, tomatoes, broccoli, radishes, scallions, red and green peppers and a tablespoon of red vinegar, about 5 oranges during the day and 1 glass of soy milk. Is this a good diet or am I am missing something? Thank you all, MichelleS
Guest guest
Michelle, I am glad you are feeling better. There are a number of potential triggers in that list. Have you tried an elimination diet to determine if you can properly metabolize soy, nightshade family (tomatoes), citrus? msteen Sun, 11 Jan 2009 06:19:51 +0000 Re: Health better already? Guest guest
Yes, I know. My point wasn't that sodas are good for you, I know they're not. My point is that saying that because Coke takes stains off of toilets it is bad for me is illogical. My gut is not a porcelain. Coke is bad for me because it's full of sugar and phosphoric acid. It's a false analogy and bad logic. Same as saying water is bad because of all the damage it can do to other things. Bad logic, and in that case, false. I'm just saying, if you want to argue to someone that soda is bad, use good logic, because to do otherwise weakens your argument. Guest guest
Are you getting enough protein? I know there is some in the milk and nuts. Don't know what soup your eating so maybe it is high protein. Unless you have protein issues. Since your detoxing right now it's fine because you don't want to give your body too much work to do as it's already in shock over the changes. After a week or so you may want to up your protein, assuming you don't have any underlying conditions with it. Some tofu, a veggie burger, beans and rice or any safe mock meats. Some brands/companies: Amy's bistro burger (Amy's has a lot of whole meals that are gf vegan, but not all are so read labels) Sunshine burgers Dixie Diners chicken/beef (NOT!) Spice of Life soy chicken/beef/jerky Sunergia seasoned tofu (they also have a soy feta and blue " cheese " but I haven't found them yet) Hemp milk has a lot of good stuff in it too. All the omegas, protein, etc. (I'm addicted to the chocolate! Also don't forget to take B12 supplements and there is not an adequate supply in the diet from any food source! Vegans are prone to anemia as well, so you may need an iron supplement. I take a supplement called juice for life which contains probiotics as well as all the nutrients of fruits/veggies as well as a sublingual B12 and an iron. (I'm still severely anemic but I recently learned I have a rare form of celiac and will always be anemic no matter what. I still take the supplements though because I think they do help some!) It's very important to make sure you get enough vitamins/minerals/nutrients. If your a sea salt person too, be aware that there is no iodine in sea salt and unless your allergic, you do need some! I will use regular salt on occasion like when eating out. I think 2-4 times a month on average and I haven't had any problems, so it must be enough for me. Everybody is different though, so get your levels checked in 6 months to see if anything is high/low and adjust your diet/supplements accordingly, then get blood work again in 6 months. If your levels are good then a once a year check is sufficient. Your doing great and I'm glad your feeling better. Keep up the good work! Good health is the greatest reward! Guest guest
If you put coke in a container with a slab of beef over night it will " eat " away at the meat and you'll have a container of gunk in the morning. That is the logical argument. This being a vegan board, I did not want to bring meat into it! Although, meat is flesh and we are flesh, so this is what coke does to flesh! It destroys it! Guest guest
Well, it sounds like you are off to a good start! I presume though, that you (like most people) will want to have some variety in your daily fare; and I'm wondering how many calories you we are looking at there. It doesn't sound like very many. The general rule is that we add a zero to our ideal weight, to identify the minimum number of calories per day we each need. For example, my ideal weight is probably about 150, so my minimum number of calories is about 1500. If I am more active, I may need more than that. Depending on your age and activity level, you may need to add in a lot more calories to maintain a healthy weight and energy. The only significant source of calories you had in your menu plan for yesterday was the almonds. Nuts and seeds are high in fat, so you may want to limit their intake to a handful per day. What was in the vegan soup? Dr. John McDougall recommends we make up the bulk of our calories with complex carbohydrates: gf whole grains such as millet, quinoa, teff, buckwheat (an unfortunate name, but it is gf!) and rice. Tubers such as potatoes, yams, are also a good source of low-fat, complex carbohydrates. You can find a variety of charts on the net to inform you of the calories in foods, and keep a food journal. Many of us do that, at least from time to time. It can help you figure out how many calories you are actually eating in a day, and sometimes, it can also help you identify other food sensitivties. Over time, you may see a pattern of symptoms corresponding to the intake of some food or product. You may also want to explore other legumes (in addition to soy) such as kidney beans, navy beans, lentils etc into your diet. Each offers different trace elements and nutritional benefits, and in genereal, they are an excellent source of low-fat, high quality calories. It can be a lot of fun discovering the flavours, textures and recipes for them. They are high in protein though, so McDougall recommends limiting intake to 1 cup of cooked legume per day. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine offers a vegetarian (vegan) starter kit which you can have sent to you or view online. It can be a helpful guide. They divide our diet into 4 main food groups: fruits, veggies, whole grains and legumes. They (and dietitians generally) recommend that we eat a variety of choices from each of those groups every day. Is your soy milk fortified with B12? If yes, that may be enough for you. You may want to also supplement that with a sublingual tablet, to ensure adequate intake. I think that sums up the questions and issues I saw in your menu from yesterday. I hope this gives you some helpful ideas. Wishing you all the best, Deborah It's now 1am here but feeling alot better. My headache is just a dull pain I can live with. I've slept off and on all day. Guest guest
Yes, that is a good argument. Much better. Again, I wasn't doubting your conclusions. I agreed. I'd like to advance the cause too. Which is why I cringe when I see faulty logic. No harm, no foul?
