Guest guest
For every person who signs the Pledge to Be Veg for 30 Days through the end of January 2009, PETA will make a donation to a program to plant fruit trees in an impoverished village where people go hungry every day. These people would benefit from the vitamin C and other natural goodness of the fresh fruit that you would be helping to provide. So not only will you be helping animals, you'll also be helping to nourish a hungry person. The trees that you will help plant will also provide shade and shelter. They will reduce carbon emissions and allow rainfall to soak into the ground instead of washing away precious top soil. But the connection between your diet and the environment doesn't stop there. A U.N. report summarized the devastation caused by the meat industry by calling it " one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. " By planting these trees, we will work together to mitigate some of the devastation caused by factory farms. http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/30_day_pledge_to_veg_jan_09?c=weekly_enews
Guest guest
I don't support PETA. They aren't very animal friendly ( They have stock in TYSON, people! They make money from slaughter houses!) I think everyone should do more research on PETA before joining their little bandwagon. Not bashing you, just thinking of the critters. Guest guest
You are right, yes PETA has started scooping up stock in a number of corps, but not because PETA is trying to profit from animal suffering. As shareholders PETA can now submit proposals to the governing boards about how animals are treated, farmed and processed (a euphamism for how they are killed) and how they should be treated, farmed and killed. I suspect that once you read the rationale PETA puts forward you may have to rethink your assumptions about the true motives behind this tactic. It's not pretty, but it is a legal, strategic way of insuring lasting change and quite smart on their part, infiltrate and then over turn. I wish I could start buying controlling shares in Mickey D's and KFC's so I could really make some necessary changes, but I can't 'because I don't have the ability to, but PETA does so I wish them luck and hope that they stay on track and I think that they will. Guest guest
I don't donate to their organization and I have many personal issues with them that I won't get into. If they plant fruit trees to help people who are starving because I sign their little petition then I sign it in hopes of helping others. I just hope that they really are helping these people!
