Guest guest
LOL! I feel the same way! One of the most astonishing ones I've heard to date was from an older lady who had been running a household for over 50 years. We were talking about how my husband and I eat a low-fat diet and so I avoid using oil for that reason. She held up a bottle of her favourite cooking oil and said " Well, there's no fat in this! " Deborah The, " Oh, if you can't eat wheat flour, at least you can still have white flour " comment that I'm sure we all get from time to time absolutely blows me away. The disconnect between people and food where they don't realize white flour is made from wheat is . . . really just astounding. Guest guest
A few years ago I went into a healthy mexican food chain restaurant, hoping to get some veggies in a corn something or other. A very pleasant and sincere young man asked to take my order and I began by telling him I would be very ill if I happened to eat any wheat. He interrupted me with a big smile on his face and assured me there would be no problem because all of their tortillas were made with flour. This young man spoke English perfectly well, with no accent or anything else that might suggest that English was not his first language. I was so startled I was actually speechless for a moment. I ended up learning that their taco shells did not have any wheat OR flour Steve Rider http://AllAboutCeliac.org/ http://SensibleCeliac.com/ http://TheGFStore.com/ http://MyCeliacBlog.com/
Guest guest
I once had a waitress bring me 2 sticky rolls at eat n park with a comment, " I brought you sticky rolls instead of the dinner rolls since your gluten free. " I too was shocked speechless for a moment. It's amazing how little people know about the food they eat. A lot of people have told me McDonald's fries are healthy for you because they use vegetable oil to fry in. As if that makes them like a plate of steamed vegetables! My family is the absolute worst when it comes to my diet! I refuse to eat anything they make simply because I know without a doubt there is cross contamination! My grandmother will bake me cookies while she's eating a sandwich and smoking a cigarette. Petting the animals, stopping to feed the animals, perhaps make lunch in between it all, and maybe wash her hands once throughout the process that she drags out for hours. I'm sure there are eggs in them along with her sandwich crumbs, some dog hair, perhaps some dog food remnants, maybe some cigarette ash and even a splash of coffee. I know she means well, and she's loosing her mind, but even if I had no food issues, I'd still throw her food away! Anybody in their right mind would! Knowing it's a gesture of love though, you simply say thanks and if asked later, oh yes they where delicious but I'm trying to cut back on my sugar so that batch will hold me for a long time! Then hope she doesn't make any more, ever! lol On Wed, Mar 4, 2009 at 12:32 PM, Stephen Rider <stephenriderwrote: > A few years ago I went into a healthy mexican food chain restaurant, > hoping to get some veggies in a corn something or other. > > A very pleasant and sincere young man asked to take my order and I > began by telling him I would be very ill if I happened to eat any > wheat.
