-Great party food ideas although I am not sure many children would like Belgian

endive though. I have a good allergy book and these are the children's party

food suggestions. These are individual pizzas,

vegetarian 'sausage' rolls, a basket made from a slice of toast with toothpicks

pushed in around the edge and cooked spaghetti woven to form the basket and this

is to be filled with potato straws. A watermelon basket hollowed out and cut to

form a handle and then filled with fruit. Popcorn is popular also. They have a

recipe made from apple juice coloured with spinach juice and jelled with agar to

make a green pond with a chocolate or carob frog.

I personally like the idea of the watermelon basket, popcorn and the green pond.

Hope these ideas are of help.

My daughter wants a tea party for her 8th birthday.

I need ideas for tiny party treat thingies that regular 8 year olds

will eat but that are safe for my celiac, vegan daughter who has grown

up on a phytonutrient rich, junk food free diet.

I thought I'd have some junk food in that I thought I'd make tiny

little cupcakes with great frosting designs, some of Elana's chocolate

covered cherries and perhaps a carrot cake (Breads from Anna) with

Elana's carrot cake frosting (My friends are crazy about it)

I also thought I'd make tiny canolis from banana leather with a cashew

cream filling.

What else would you make? chocolate dipped strawberries and bananas?

black bean dip on belgian endive?

I find it easy to think of ideas for my kids because they happy with

salsa, carrots and some fruit. It's these other little girls I worry

about

any ideas?

Her twin brother wants to take a group of friends bowling. I figure

cupcakes (not as pretty as Shira's), the chocolate cherries and fruit

will make the boys happy

If soy is ok you could make mini cheesecakes with soy cream cheese, with a

cookie as the crust in cupcake liners, and top with fruit.

Also, the enjoy life brand cookies are small enough that you could get a couple

different kinds and put them on a plate in some sort of pattern to serve with

tea/juice. It would be an easy allergy free treat that taste great ! Every time

I have them, my gluten eating friends/family devour them faster than they do

wheat based treats!

Hope the party goes well! Happy Birthday to your kids!

My niece and nephews like these, as do the adults. Most comment that they

wouldn't have guessed that they were vegan unless I had told them. I like to use

organic dates, sultanas and coconut.

Carob Walnut Balls

1/2 cup sunflower seeds

1/2 cup walnuts

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/2 cup sultanas (raisins)

10 dates, pitted

1 tsp GF vanilla extract (essence)

1 tsp carob powder

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 cup walnuts

1/4 cup desiccated (shredded) coconut

a little agave nectar if the mixture is too firm

1. Grind the first 1/2 cup of walnuts and the sunflower seeds in a food

processor.

2. Add peanut butter, sultanas, dates, vanilla extract, carob powder and

cinnamon. Process until well blended and beginning to form a dough consistency.

3. Add 1/2 cup walnuts and process until lightly chopped and mixed through.

4. Take small portions of mixture and, using hands, work into a dough. Form into

balls and toss in coconut.

I am so glad I spoke to you about this. My daughter loves Belgian

endive so I didn't think that other kids might not like it.

the sausage rolls and pizzas are out as my daughter is also allergic

to soy. dairy free, egg free, gluten free and soy free makes too many

substitutions. I love the watermelon basket idea for her adn the frog

pond for her brother. I know he won't eat the pond as both kids find

" jello " type things nauseating but I'll bet it will appeal to little

boys.

it's good to hear that your gluten eating friends like those cookies

because I can't stand them. I've given up n cookies because of all my

restrictions. My daughter loves those cookies.

Here is a recipe that I made for my daughter's tea party. They were very quite

successful! You can see a photo on my blog.

http://wildflowermorningrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/01/impossibly-delicious-gluten\

-free-vegan.html

Impossibly Delicious Gluten Free- Vegan Cupcakes

Adapted from a recipe found in Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup almond flour (grind almonds in blender to flour consistency)

1/2 cup brown rice flour

1/2 cup sorghum flour

1 cup rice milk

1/3 cup oil

1/2 cup raw cane sugar or Sucanant

3 teaspoons lemon extract

1/4 cup tapioca flour

2 Tablespoons ground flax seed

In one bowl, mix together the salt, baking soda, baking powder, sorghum flour,

rice flour and almond flour. In another bowl, mix together rice milk, oil,

sugar, and lemon extract. Add the tapioca flour and ground flax seed to the bowl

with the liquid ingredients and blend well until the mixture is fluffy and

starts to come together, then add the rest of the dry ingredients.

Spoon the batter into tiny muffin liner lined muffin tins and fill them about

3/4 of the way full. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the tops spring back

when you press them.

Make a little gluten free-vegan icing to top the cupcakes, or eat them just as

they are. They are delicious.

Not that I'm pushing pizza or anything, but Namaste brand makes a pizza crust

mix that is gluten, dairy, egg, soy, and sugar free. You could make little mini

pizzas ahead of time (or a big one and cut it) and let them add their own

toppings so that they can eat what they like.

https://www.namastefoods.com/shopping/storefront/cgi-bin/product_nutrition.cgi?P\

roduct_Id=31 & Category_Id_Search=6 & Closeout_Search=All & Return_Cgi=item_list.cgi

Also little sandwiches made on appropriate bread and cut into cute little shapes

will always be tea party worthy. Use fillings such as thinly sliced veggies or

nut butters.

Decorate the plates with small edible flowers.

Make a beautiful, colorful veggie platter with all the veggies cut in new and

pretty ways - long thin carrots placed upright in a tall glass, radishes cut in

roses, cucumbers spiral cut into a long slinky, mounds of cherry tomoatos,

yellow peppers laid flat and cut into shapes.

The watermelon basket filled with all sorts of fruits will be beautiful! Try to

find a star fruit and cut star-shaped slices - we always loved those as a kid.

You have some lucky twins!

what about hummas? You could use that to make a heart and then use veggies to

decorate.... you could take black olives and use vegan cream cheese and make

little penguins.... google penguin black olives.... they are SO cute. If you

need some extra ideas, email me or check out my website.... www.sonyascakes.com

The book is Recipes to the Rescue by Lindy Kingsmill, Suzanne Morrow and Jann

Bonner. It is an Australian book that was published in 1988.I think there was a

reprint done a few years later. I would thoroughly recommend this book as the

recipes are great.

Green Pond with Frog Jumping Out.

2c apple juice

1T spinach juice to colour

1T agar flakes

Place juices and agar in saucepan and cook until agar has dissolved.

Wet mould and pour juice into mould.

Frogs can be purchased or made from a frog mould using either carob or

chocolate.

The book is probably available on Amazon.
