Guest guest
Hi all, I'm a newbie, and did a search to see if anyone bought bulk flour online, but didn't see anything. I am trying to find ways to buy bread that is not $5 dollars/loaf, but a bob's red mill mix is $6 at the store here!! I have a vita mix, but not the grain grinder, so I was thinking I need to find bulk flour. Does anyone here have any suggestions that they have been successful with? Thanks. Guest guest
amazon.com has some Bob's red mill flours in bulk, and some other brands too. Products that they distribute they offer free shipping on $25 or more order. I also buy from GFN their pizza crust mix, multi grain bread mix and brownies mix. http://www.gfnfoods.com/products.htm Also, check for celiac conferences in your area. They have lots of giveaways and products you can buy often at a reduced price and you don't have to worry about shipping! Most of the giveaways and samples are off limits as they have milk, eggs, or gelatin, but the coupons and discounts are great! Hope you find what your looking for! Let the group know if there's something specific your trying to find. Guest guest
A note on Amazon: Only some of the suppliers offer the free shipping for orders over $25. I started to order flour on there yesterday and discovered the shipping was only $1 less than the cost of the actual flours! Ridiculous. Guest guest
That's been my experience as well with Amazon. The shipping for flour has not come out to be free when I've tried it. Someone on another forum suggested trying an Amish store in the area, but I am doubtful that I can find rice, arrowroot, tapioca, millet flour -- these are the odd ball flours that many places don't carry. There has to be a better way to find cheap flour. We have to be gluten free for health reasons, but I can't afford what I've done in the past anymore. I don't mind baking it myself, but I can't do it without the flour! Thanks for all the replies! Guest guest
I order flours in bulk from Bob's Red Mill. I usually order the 25 pound bags, and then shipping for each is around $20-$25. It's expensive, but a lot cheaper than I can find it in local stores. Another place you can try is your local grocery store's bulk bins. I get soy flour, white rice flour, cornstarch, and coconut from Winco's bulk area. I also get masa harina in local stores. --Shawn
Guest guest
amazon.com only does the free shipping deal on products they distribute through their warehouse. The ones shipped and sold by other companies through their site they have no real contol over the cost of the products or shipping. When browsing through the items you'll see a little symbol stating it qualifies for free shipping. On the left side of the screen there is also an option to filter out and only see those products that qualify for free shipping on orders over $25. Guest guest
You can make your own flour in the vitamix from grains. I do it all the time. I freeze the grain first so it doesn't over heat in the vitamix and then blend. sidereal2 <sidereal2 Tuesday, March 24, 2009 7:09 PM Bulk Flour Hi all, I'm a newbie, and did a search to see if anyone bought bulk flour online, but didn't see anything. Guest guest
Is there a bulk food store or a health food store that sells flours in your area? I order large bags of GF flours from the Bulk Barn (I am in Canada) or a small store about an hour away (10 - 22kg per flour). The Bulk food store only gives me a 10% discount on the bin though while the smaller store gives me a better deal than that. The advanatge of two is that they have different flours (one gets me arrowroot, the other one sells it in small packages) and different suppliers (so I can get clean brown rice and buckwheat flour instead of " may contain traces of wheat " ). It took me a while, but has worked out well and I don;t have to pay shipping - I just pick it up at the store. You can order directly from some places - Twin Valley Mills for sorghum (not me as it only ships US) + others. Guest guest
Colleen, Is this with the regular blade? I didn't know I could do this -- this is kinda exciting! Any grains in particular I should avoid? Thanks! Audrey
Guest guest
I have a container that I bought from vitamix that's used specifically to grind dry stuff like grains and nuts --- On Fri, 27/3/09, sidereal2 <sidereal2 wrote: sidereal2 <sidereal2 Re: Bulk Flour Friday, 27 March, 2009, 6:00 PM Colleen, Is this with the regular blade? Guest guest
sorry forgot to answer other part of question about what grain to avoid. The grains are for my 4 kids and each child is different as far as what they can tolerate. But I freeze and grind buckwheat groats, tapioca peals, teff, millet, quinoa, amaranth and some beans. --- On Fri, 27/3/09, sidereal2 <sidereal2 wrote: sidereal2 <sidereal2 Re: Bulk Flour Friday, 27 March, 2009, 6:00 PM Colleen, Is this with the regular blade?
