Guest guest
Would this be similar in taste to the ginger dressing I used to get at Japanese restaurants on my salad? Do you think it'd be good for dipping shrimp in? Thanks! Karen janisan222 Sunday, May 03, 2009 9:24 PM I'd like to share a recipe for Ginger Sesame Dressing (contains soy) Ginger Sesame Dressing 1/2 tsp Ginger grated/minced (optional if you don't like ginger) 1 TBS Toasted Sesame Oil 1 TBS Rice Vinegar 3 TBS Soysauce (wheatfree for us) 1 TBS spring water Some people like their dressing more salty, so instead of the 1 TBS of water, they can do a 4th TBS of soysauce. It makes about 3 servings of 2 TBS each. thanks!
Guest guest
Oh forgot, where does one find the minced ginger (Is there a ready to go one in a spice container?) and what about the sesame oil and rice vinegar? Are they in ANY grocery or an Asian one? Thanks again! Guest guest
I've seen all the ingredients in various health food stores and many regular grocery stores. If your regular grocer has an international foods section, check there first. Some stores mix them in with similar products. If you go with fresh ginger, whatever you don't use, peal and put in a freezer bag and store in the freezer. It will stay fresh for months. Guest guest
It's unlikely that people on a vegan list will be able to answer your question about using this for shrimp. This kind of question tends to offend those who are on the list as strict vegans and often gets argument going about what is being posted. It's good for veggies. I buy ingredients like rice vinegar at my local asian shop. Guest guest
Please don't reply IF I offend you! That is just plain inconsiderate of others choices just as I never would condemn anyone for their personal choices. I want these sauces for many uses and just so you know salad is in fact of those items! Guest guest
I'm sure she must have meant veggie shrimp. ;-) I picked some soy shrimp from the Asian market this weekend for hubby. It is molded soy, with a wee bit of colour and some sea vegetable to give it a " sea " taste. The ginger sauce that I would use for these " tofu fingers " is a thick, sweet, sauce of pickled ginger, garlic, some (gf) soy sauce, water, and sugar, boiled until thick, with some chili flakes added at some point in the boiling, depending on how hot you want it (if you add the chili flakes at the beginning, it will be very hot, if you add them at the end, it will be milder.) You can cut the sugar and use cornstarch or arrowroot to thicken. I don't think a vinigrette sauce such as the one posted would " stick " enough to veggie shrimp. Guest guest
Well Karen, while I don't disagree with you that people should not flame or insult others, this is a vegan list, which indicates that many people on here choose not to eat flesh and participation in the list should respect that those who choose that option for moral reasons aren't offended either. Please let's remember it's a vegan list and save discussion of flesh foods for other lists which support that choice. Vegan means no animal products and it is inconsiderate to ask questions about flesh foods on a list designed for those who don't eat it. Personally I don't care one way or another what food anyone chooses but in the past these kinds of questions have caused a great deal of upset and stress for the owner so out of respect for other list members, I kindly and respectfully ask that you not ask questions about flesh foods here. .... unless of course, as Pam suggested you meant mock shrimp :-D BL On Mon, May 4, 2009 at 10:06 AM, Karen Fielder <karenandbrandon wrote: > > > Please don't reply IF I offend you! Guest guest
Karen, it's a vegan list, and that means (real) shrimp is out. While some are here just because of allergies to eggs, dairy, and gluten, others are ethical vegans and don't want to see animal products mentioned at all. Guest guest
There probably is, but if you are GF, panko bread crumbs won't work for you - they're wheat. Clara I. Guest guest
Not that I know of, but here's a recipe the works well. Gluten-Free Panko-style Crumbs Ingredients: * 3 cups gluten-free Rice Chex Cereal * Salt and pepper to taste Place the gluten-free Rice Chex cereal in a plastic bag. Use a rolling pin to crush the cereal to coarse flakes. Season with salt and pepper and any herb blend that you like. Use as a breading for any recipe that requires a crisp breading.
