Hi all,

I have an acquaintance who has two sons diagnosed with autism. She is

beginning to explore the connection between autism and gluten/casein and

is feeling overwhelmed. If any of you have support group info that you

think could help her, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I'm hoping

specifically to find a " tried and true " for parents of

autistic children who are pursuing a gluten-free casein-free diet.

Thanks,

Karen

Hi Karen

I have run a group on for going on 9 years now. Originally we

were just recipes for people using gfcf for treatment of ASD, but over that

time we have expanded to over 5000 members and some are there for CD.

However, predominantly the group members are parents of children with ASD.

Our archives on recipe circus have over 2500 TNT recipes and we do offer

talk about all kinds of biomedical treatment as well.

Certainly we would be happy to have your friend join us to ask her

questions. The group is not specifically vegetarian, but indeed it is for

parents pursuing biomedical interventions including GFCF and SCD for ASD.

The group is GFCFRecipes. Have your friend go to www. and

search the group title in the search option box.

There is also GFCFKids, but it's a pretty fast and furious list. On my

group, we try to maintain a quiet calm, no fighting attitude so that people

can feel comfortable asking all sorts of questions. We also get to hear

great recovery and how my child is progressing reports from parents who have

been at it a long time or a little and we welcome all of those as well. In

fact we just had a report today from a member who has been with us 6 years.

Her two boys were originally diagnosed with ASD and today her eldest got

results back on his Ravens (gifted program), scoring in the 99% range a huge

change for a child who didn't speak until he was 3.

GFCFRecipes and GFCFKids are two great groups. Both are pretty active, though.

The Recipes one has a link to a recipe archive (like a giant on-line cookbook.

Awesome moderator. GFCFKids deals not only with the diet but lots of different

issues. The moderator is Dana from www.danasview.net, a great on-line resource

for lots of issues. The TACA website is a great resource for starting the diet.

They also have a group. I have 2 kids with ASD that I am trying to recover if

she has any questions.

I suggest she contact Meagan McGovern http://

www.mcgovernsorganics.com/ and speak to her.

Meagan's younger son has/had autism. He was non-verbal, made no eye

contact, screamed incessantly and stimmed.

She took him off gluten, casein and a bunch of other things and

started with high doses of certain supplements. The child has made a

full recovery, however, if he so much as has a tiny bit of gluten or

dairy he starts showing signs of autism again.

Meagan is a wonderfully compassionate woman who is reaching out to the

autism community. She provides free advice and support and can direct

your friend to the most helpful groups.
