Guest guest
Hi again, It has just been brought to my attention that I mistyped my phone number in my first post about grapes. Apologies to anyone who tried to call, and please try again. The number below is correct. Thank you! Nora 425.802.0165
Guest guest
Hi All, I will have uncertified organic grapes for sale either next weekend (the 19th) or the following weekend (the 26th). I have created a database at the Raw Washington homepage for your ordering convenience. If you have any questions about using it, please either post them here or email me privately. This will be the 4th year I've gotten these grapes and they are very special. Small orchards and vineyards are disappearing so fast in Eastern Washington that I don't know how much longer this wonderful fruit will be available so every year I am extremely grateful to be able to get them. If you've only had grapes from supermarkets, you need to try these so you'll know what grapes are really supposed to be like. Fruit that is grown far away is sometimes all we can get and I'm glad to have it in January but when we have a choice, local is always better. Not because there's necessarily anything special about the food that is grown here but because moving fruit thousands of miles requires many days or sometimes weeks of refrigeration. Refrigeration delays decomposition, but it exacts a high price. Sugars do not continue to properly form, the skin and cell membranes toughen, and nutrients are lost. Some fruits are more negatively affected than others. In the case of grapes, they become tasteless, the tender, crisp " pop " that they're supposed to have is lost, and they become tough and rubbery. You'll know what I mean if you buy these grapes. As in past years I will have two varieties, Green Thompson and (purple) Manukka. There's not much difference between the two besides the color but the Thompsons are " cleaner " (less unripe or overripe grapes in the cluster) and I usually favor them. Both are seedless, small and very sweet. Btw, don't be afraid of sugar! Sugar is the #1 nutrient need of human beings. There's a reason why babies want sweet foods and most of us have the " curse " of a sweet tooth. Nature has endowed all species with the ability to recognize its food, and humans are no exception. Since sugar is our #1 need, sweetness is our #1 criterion. And these grapes are full of wonderful, natural sugars. I eat these grapes daily as my main meal for as long as I can every fall. These are not only the BEST grapes you'll ever eat but probably the cheapest as well (for organic at least) -- only $1.75/lb, with a 10 pound minimum. They usually last about 10 days or so if kept in an unheated room. I keep them stored in my garage. All of the fruits were late this year because of our cool spring and I have not yet been in contact with the farm to see if that's true of the grapes as well. I'll be doing that soon but I wanted to get the database up in the meantime. I'll post when I know which weekend it will be. Let me know if you have any questions. Best wishes, Nora
Guest guest
The skins of all grapes are very high in histamines. The histamine chemistry increases as the grapes become sweeter.
