Guest guest
My favorite alternative is Hemp milk. More nutritious than soy or rice milk. Living Harvest is the brand I always buy. Here's a link: http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/ExecMacro/livingharvest/home.d2w/re\ port Looks like they've gotten so big they were picked up by a larger distributer and their name changed. There are 2 types that are sugar free. Marie =) On Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 11:44 AM, pdw <pdworkman wrote: > > > Can you guys tell me what gfcf milks are also sugar free and corn > syrup free? Guest guest
I forgot, vanilla is out. And anything with " natural flavours " since she is allergic to corn and a number of spices. Guest guest
The Tempt Hemp Milk from Living Harvest uses brown rice syrup and evaporated cane juice, Here's the ingredients: Ingredients Hemp Nut Base (Filtered Water, Hemp Nut [shelled Hemp Seed]), Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Tricalcium Phosphate, Carrageenan, Sea Salt, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D2, Riboflavin, Vitamin B12. Not sure if you meant all sweeteners-free or just specifically glucose-fructose and dextrose. BL
Guest guest
Then I am pretty sure there is no commercial milk that will fit the bill. At 14, does she need to have a milk to drink, or is this for cereal and baking? BL On Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 12:04 PM, pdw<pdworkman wrote: > > > I forgot, vanilla is out. Guest guest
Sorry, I should have specified: no corn, cane, or rice. It also can't have vanilla or cinnamon (so no natural flavours). Sweeteners that would be okay would be honey, date sugar, maple syrup, agave. So far I have found " So Nice " unsweetened and " Sunrise Soya " unsweetened. Guest guest
She's actually not yet two years old. Niece is a single, working mom, with absolutely no experience in alternative diets. Niece's mom, who takes care of the little ones during the day, is a good cook, but very SAD with no experience in dealing with allergies or healthy food. She is, however, willing to learn, and sends food home with the kids so that mom doesn't have to start cooking at 7:00 at night. Guest guest
Here's something brand new! Free of all offending ingredients... http://www.purelydecadent.com/products/Coconut_Bev_Unsweetened.html The unsweetened hemp milk ingredients did not contain any form of sugars. I'd call/email the company regarding the " natural flavors " as an ingredient. You can't assume they contain corn/vanilla/cinnamon. Especially because they are so diligent in their allergen practices. Just sayin' On Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 12:35 PM, pdw <pdworkman wrote: > > > She's actually not yet two years old. Guest guest
The vitamins are often a source of corn unless the company will specificially say it is free of all corn - " Marie Nelson " <marie.nelson Thursday, July 02, 2009 4:06 PM Re: Milk alternatives > Here's something brand new! Guest guest
The thing is, when a company lists " natural flavors " , that is their " secret formula " , and they will not tell you what is in it. They will only tell you what is not in it if you inquire specifically. And because corn has become so omnipresent in our food industry, food manufacturers have no idea what ingredients, chemicals, additives, preservatives, etc. might contain corn. So they might tell me that no, it does not include corn, but is it maltodextrin? Is it dextrose? It is citric acid? Is it methylcellulose? Is it caramel flavoring? And if it is one of those (or one of the million other possibilities), then was it corn derived or was it derived from tapioca? Or does it change from month to month depending on their supplier? So they may say that, to the best of their knowledge, it does not include corn, but unless I see the actual list of ingredients, I'm not going to trust them. One of the milk makers says right on their website that their product is corn-free. But one of the ingredients is crystalline fructose. Where is the crystalline fructose derived from? Corn. But they believe that the manufacturing process removes all corn proteins from the product, so they say it is corn free. Another milk maker says that their product is gluten-free, even though they use barley in processing it, because they don't believe that there are any gluten proteins remaining in the final product. I want to know exactly what ingredients are in it before I trust the company as to what is not in it. Guest guest
Hi,We've been buying the coconut milk beverage and the coconut yoghurt for a couple of months now. Even my non-vegan kids like them better than regular milk and yoghurt! They put it on cereal, and I even put it in coffee. I definitely recommend it.Kate --- On Thu, 7/2/09, pdw <pdworkman wrote: pdw <pdworkman Re: Milk alternatives Thursday, July 2, 2009, 4:54 PM I'll have to see if they sell that up here.
