Guest guest
I'm planning to invest in a yogurt maker and make my own yogurt. I want plain, unsweetened, tangy, non-dairy yogurt. Has anyone tried doing this? Do you have favorite milk substitutes, one kind or a blend? And do you know where to get a good dairy free starter? Thanks! Guest guest
The turtle mountain coconut yoghurt is dairy free and works as a good starter as does the Ricera. Guest guest
I buy the Pearl Organic Soymilk and Turtle Mountain Coconut Yogurt as well for starter. I open the Hermetically sealed soymilk, sterilize the spoon to dip in the yogurt with alcohol(let it dry first) then gently spoon in the coconut yogurt. Put the cap back on the soymilk, then shake like crazy (make sure you hold down the cap) Then I just leave it in a sunny window for one day, then a shady cool spot for another day. It's a zingy tart yogurt that is drinkable but yummy with fruit. You can use any other dairy free yogurt so long as it has live cultures in it. I don't use a yogurt machine at all. Simple! Guest guest
Thank you Brenda-Lee. I hadn't realized that Turtle Mountain made a plain coconut yogurt but I see on their site that they do. It hasn't been available in my local stores but I can go a bit farther a field and see if another store has it. This is the first time I have ever seen the name Ricera. I shall keep an eye out for that one too. Thanks! Martha
