Guest guest
Yummy. Speaking of ice cream, I've been wanting to get an ice-cream maker for quite some time. I want to be able to mix in all kinds of good stuff with whatever flavor ice-cream I choose to make. Do you guys have any of those makers or do you ever make ice-cream without one? S. Guest guest
I just got a Donvier ice cream maker at a yard sale for $3.00, I've seen them priced from $40-$50! I've only made vanilla and coffee ice cream so far, but I love it. It's an ice cream maker that has a metal insert filled with a refrigerant and you keep the insert in the freezer until you need it. After you prepare your ice cream mixture, you put the insert into the plastic holder, pour your mixture in and after about 15 - 20 mins and several turns of the handle you have delicious soft ice cream. (You don't have to keep churning it.) At this point you can put it into the freezer to harden some more are eat it soft. We have never made it to the freezer to freeze it harder! Jane > Yummy. Guest guest
> Do you guys have any of those makers or do you ever make ice-cream > without one? Sorbets are pretty easy without one. Put the mixture in a shallowpan in the freezer, and every ten or 15 minutes, go stir with a fork. Alternatively, freeze in ice cube trays and then run through a blnder that can do ice... I was given theKitchenAid ice cream maker attachment last year - if you already have a stand mixer it's a wonderful addition... Guest guest
Somewhere in my kitchen, I think I still have one or two like: http://www.donkihote.com/images18000000/15543119.jpg " The cat did not respond. Guest guest
I didn't know the KA mixer had an ice cream maker attachment! I love my mixer, but I've never bought any attachments. Lately I've been thinking about the juicer and pasta maker. I suppose those would be good christmas items to ask for, as the attachments can get expensive. Denise, I think they've only had the ice cream bowl for a year or two. The ice cream thing is a bowl with freezer gel you keep in the freezer, and a special paddle to mix with. It was a Christmas gift for me too - they are expensive!
Guest guest
I got the book Vice Cream last year, it's all vegan and the two recipes I've tried so far are pretty good! Note: cashews are a major ingredient in most of the recipes, and I decided next time I make one of the recipes, I will use cashew butter rather than grinding the cashews in my blender--I think it will be smoother that way. Guest guest
I think that was me. Did I post that to your blog? Isn't it AWESOME???!!! My kids love it, and I give them this on their birthdays along with a raw cake. It's always a big hit with *most* of the kids, and the moms are usually very appreciative! Try other fruits too. Blend some different tropical fruits together.....YUM! But bananas are my favorite, or at least *mostly* bananas for the base. I'm glad you like it! Cindy Someone here told me that they peel their bananas and then just freeze them whole. Then they put it through their Champion Juicer. Okay - I did that today. WHAT?????????????????? IS THIS THE BEST KEPT SECRET ALIVE?????? We could make BIG BUCKS selling this stuff!! No sugar - no milk - no nothing. Just a frozen banana and it came out exactly like a soft serve ice cream and was sweeter than sweet! Okay - I recommend the CHAMPION juicer to anyone. I am in 7th heaven. Guest guest
does anyone know if this would work in the Jack La Lane juicer? I am going to buy a juicer in the next couple of days, I am just waiting to make sure it does all that I hope it does...like this banana thing....this sounds fabulous and I LOVE bananas and especially banana pudding...so I am sure this would be a favorite treat for me...but I want to make sure the juicer I buy can handle it. In theroy...would a food processor make the same banana mush??? hmmmm...may have to try that today! Keep me posted! Guest guest
I don't know about that juicer specifically, but you'll need a masticating juicer with a " blank " plate. A centrifugal juicer will not work. I have a champion and it will make ice cream. kristi On Mar 28, 2006, at 3:18 PM, Bad Dobby wrote: > does anyone know if this would work in the Jack La Lane juicer? Guest guest
I've never used the JL juicer, but I don't think it's the right kind. I'm pretty sure it would not work, but I'm sure you could find out on their website. Yes, it does work in a food processor and I think you might even be able to do it in the Vitamix (I don't have one, so I've never tried), but it has the best taste and texture if it is frozen as solid as possible, and I'm not sure how it comes out in a food processor. You might try it before you decide on a juicer though. It's really yummy! Let us know how it is in the food processor! does anyone know if this would work in the Jack La Lane juicer? Guest guest
No the Jack La Lane juicer does not homogenize but if you have a good blender you can get almost the same effect. I use a frozen banana with any of the following ..... mango, papaya, strawberries, raspberries or blueberries. If both fruits are frozen it is even more like soft serve. If only one of the fruits is frozen it comes more like a creamy pudding. It's delicious either way. Leslie

Guest guest
Cindy - it was YOU on my blog! Thank you so much. We have had so much company tonight - and we have made sure everyone gets a great serving of " banana ice cream " before they leave. IT IS FABULOUS - thank you so much. I was going to try putting just strawberries in it - and just a little banana. Thanks for the idea. I am shaking my head - I have had this champion for about 10 years - and NEVER knew this. Guest guest
I've been doing this for years, since the early 1990s. And I've hoped for frozen banana ice cream kiosks everywhere. Guest guest
You are so welcome! I've only had my Champion for about 5 or 6 years, but my parents have had one for about 12 years or so. I think that was one of the first things we made in it besides juice. We always loved it every time. I can't remember where we first heard about making " freezies " , but I'm pretty sure it's in the recipe booklet that comes with the juicer. You know you can make nut butters in it too, right? The yummiest almond butter is made when you soak the almonds first (to release the enzyme enhibitors) and then dehydrate them until they are very crisp and crunchy. Then just run them through (you may have to take breaks if it gets hot), and do not add anything to it. You can if you want to, of course, but it is SO GOOD with nothing added. I think dehydrating them gives them a toasted flavor. I'm sure other nuts are good this way too, but I've only made almond butter. What else can be done with the Champion....anyone?
